The NL Central is the tightest division race in the Majors at midseason, with only 4.5 games separating first and last place. By season’s end, it will probably end up being a three-team race between the Cubs, Brewers, and Cardinals. Let’s dive into each team in this division, starting with the first-place Chicago Cubs.

When Josh Bell first made his MLB debut three years ago, the expectations were sky high. Bell was supposed to anchor the Pirates lineup for years to come and contributed right away. After hitting a career-high twenty-six home runs in 2017 Bell only hit twelve last year. He was inconsistent at times and failed to be the Pirates power threat on a team in dire need. In the second half, however, Bell improved providing hope for the future. He has carried that success into 2019 in dominating fashion. His start is even more impressive considering the adversity this team has already faced.
You know the rules: the seven best hitters of the week.
Entering 2018 the Pirates had many question marks surrounding the future of this team. Franchise icon Andrew McCutchen and ace Gerrit Cole were traded away for prospects. As a result, the expectations in Pittsburgh were low and another rebuild seemed to be underway. The Pirates failed to make the playoffs however many of their young players took steps forward. Led by a talented rotation this group could be a sleeper team in the NL Central.
