The Canes are an up-and-coming franchise with a plethora of young talent at their disposal. With the 2020 NHL Entry Draft set to take place on October 6th, what better way to get the juices flowing amongst hockey fans than a good old-fashioned mock draft. Without further ado, here is my rendition of picks 11-15 based on talent, upside, and organizational needs.
Carolina vs. Boston…here we go again. Last spring, the Carolina Hurricanes campaign came to an end when they were swept (4-0) at the hands of the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Finals. Fast-forward 15 months and the two teams are scheduled to lock horns, once again, in the first round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs in what promises to be a scintillating encounter. So just what can we expect this time around between two evenly-matched, well-coached teams? Let’s read on and find out.
The NHL playoffs have arrived, providing the New York Rangers with a unique opportunity to prove themselves on the big stage.
A full schedule awaits us tonight in the NHL. We have trimmed down the mega slate and we will try to ride the coattails of a few teams that are in really good form of late. The Florida Panthers host the Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa and Detroit tangle in the Motor City and the red-hot Chicago Blackhawks host the Carolina Hurricanes in what should be a game with lots of scoring chances. We can finally draw some, not all, conclusions on certain teams. For tonight, three games are really piquing my interest. Buffalo at Washington, Detroit at Carolina and Philadelphia at New Jersey. Tonight the focus will be Boston hosting the Devils, the Jets and Blackhawks in Chicago, the surging Carolina Hurricanes looking to stay undefeated versus the Blue Jackets and the Maple Leafs looking to rebound at Detroit. Let’s drop the puck and make some Ice Picks.
The Carolina Hurricanes were finally able to crack that decade long playoff drought. First-year head coach Rod Brind’Amour led them to a 99 point season, good enough for the 7th seed. Once in the playoffs, the Hurricanes were able to knock off both the defending Cup winner Washington Capitals as well as the New York Islanders, before eventually succumbing to the Boston Bruins in the Conference Finals. Can they manage to carry the success further next season, or will they end going a step backward in their progression?
The Boston Bruins locked up their spot in the Eastern Conference Final on Monday night by defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-0 in Game Six of their second-round series. Carolina will be facing a very familiar foe in the Bruins, having gone up against them in three of their five playoff seasons. For the Bruins, this is their third appearance in the conference finals in the last nine seasons.
