National League Top 10 Power Rankings

With only six weeks remaining of the MLB season, we are set to have a crazy finish for the National League. As I looked at the beginning of Sunday, there are only four teams out of the playoff race. Young talent looking to make statements and veterans looking to finally grab October hardware or even their first playoff win. It will be a very bumpy ride, but I will be here giving you a breakdown. This list will change from week to week, as each series is critical at this point in the season (just ask the Braves) so make sure to check back.

What’s Going On With the Yankees?

At one point in the 2018 Major League Baseball Season, the New York Yankees were in contention for the division lead in the American League East. Now the Yankees sit ten games back of the Red Sox, which is their biggest deficit of the season. I, being a Yankee fan, have thought extensively about what the problem with the Yankees is lately, as well as why the Red Sox so good.

Change in Fortune for Harper, Machado

What a difference an All-Star Break makes, especially if you’re free-agent-to-be Bryce Harper. His performance in the first half of the season was costing him millions of dollars on the free agent market, as his average hovered near the Mendoza line.
On the other hand, fellow soon-to-be free agent Manny Machado seemingly shrugged off daily trade rumors and put together a first half that likely made him the front-runner for MLB’s first $400 million contract. But what a difference an All-Star Break makes.

What’s Wrong With Jon Lester?

Pitchers hit bumps in the road as do hitters. There are peaks and valleys in baseball. It comes with the territory of playing 162 games a season. Naturally, fans react either positively or negatively to any spike in production. A young hitter goes 12-24 with 5 HRs in a week and all of a sudden he’s Babe Ruth. A young pitcher goes 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA in an 11-day span and he is suddenly Greg Maddux. When is it time though to be concerned about a pitcher who has been solid, for the most part, his entire career?

Pittsburgh Pirates – Plight or Prosperity? Post-Deadline Performance Evaluation

The Pittsburgh Pirates made waves at the trade deadline by acquiring two big-name pitchers, so how has it gone so far? The Pirates’ notoriously fickle front office decided to surprise fans at the MLB trade deadline by acquiring former Texas Rangers relief pitcher Keone Kela and former Tampa Bay Rays starter Chris Archer. Both names rang well in the ears of the Pittsburgh faithful, but the fans wanted top-tier work to match the expectations of the names alone. With the Pirates fighting to get back into the playoff picture, Archer and Kela are under a microscope.

Aaron Judge – Chip Fracture

Aaron Judge was in the 1st inning of Thursday’s game when he was hit by a pitch.  He was later removed from the game due to continued pain and swelling and underwent additional imaging which revealed a distal ulnar styloid chip fracture which was non-displaced.  That was a mouthful just to type, let alone understand.  What exactly is wrong you ask.

The Hall of Fame’s Identity Crisis

As the Hall of Fame gets ready to welcome its newest members, let’s not question if those players are worthy, but if the Hall of Fame is truly that. In my mind, the Hall is going through an identity crisis.  But more on that in a moment.

Yoenis Cespedes – Heel Injury Review

Yoenis Cespedes heel injury was not the news Mets fans wanted to hear. The outcome will be even less popular. Retrocalcaneal bursitis and Achilles tendon calcification is a difficult injury to recover from when it occurs on one foot but having it on both feet and requiring surgery on both feet at the same time is a very daunting injury to come back from. Given his advancing age, at least in terms of a professional athlete, the recovery could be even more difficult.
