The New Orleans Pelicans became the second team to be eliminated from postseason contention, just a few days after the Utah Jazz were eliminated. The silver lining? They weren’t the first, and that had to provide some relief to their fanbase.
Even though playoffs aren’t in the cards, there are still some things to be happy about.
7 Wins in 10 Games
While their schedule shows many losses, one can’t help but notice that little 10-game stretch back in January when they won seven games. Even if four of those wins came against the lowly Washington Wizards (twice) and the Utah Jazz (twice), it is still impressive.
McCollum Time
Did CJ McCollum scored 11 of the team’s 13 points in a game’s overtime? Yes, that happened in a February game against the Sacramento Kings. McCollum missed a floater that would have iced the game in the fourth quarter. It didn’t matter, though, as he more than made up for it with his memorable performance in the extra period.
Progress From Others
Yves Missi
By the time the team was eliminated, Missi was the team leader in games played, largely thanks to star players missing time. The rookie provided decent points, rebounds, and blocks while playing around 27 minutes per game. It’s time to imagine what he can do with more experience and more playing time.
Trey Murphy III
Murphy has been on a steady rise thanks to his scoring abilities. The fourth-year player is even good for multiple three-pointers a game. He proved his worth as a “bucket-getter” when he had 40 and 41 points in back-to-back games, respectively. Fans should expect more from Murphy in the future.
The Zion and Dejounte Show
These two key players never got a lot of playing time together. Zion Williamson missed the first few months of the season, while Dejounte Murray has been sidelined since the early parts of February. Hopefully, that changes soon and we will get to see what this team looks like with those two in action.
