Seattle Seahawks vs. Atlanta Falcons: Week 8 Preview

The Seattle Seahawks will travel to Atlanta, Ga., on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019, in Week 8 of the NFL season. Seattle leads the all-time series 10-6 and has won the last two of three games; the last time the two teams met was in 2017, and the last time they met in Atlanta was 2013. The Seahawks come into this week at 5-2 but the Falcons enter at 1-6.

Seattle comes into Sunday’s game after losing last week 30-16 versus the Baltimore Ravens. The Seattle offense has a per-game average of 391.6 yards and the defense has put up 357.0 yards so far this season.

Quarterback Russell Wilson has completed 157 of 230 passes for 1,945 yards, 15 touchdowns, one interception, and a rating of 114.1. Chris Carson leads the team with 139 receptions for 569 yards and two touchdowns, and Tyler Lockett has recorded 40 carries for 515 yards and four touchdowns. Tedric Thompson leads the team with two interceptions, and kicker Jason Myers has completed 19 out of 20 extra points and eight of 11 field goal attempts.

Russell Wilson had 241 pass yards, a touchdown, and an interception in Week 7 against the Ravens and is going for his third game in a row versus an NFC South opponent with two or more touchdowns and a 100-plus rating. In Wilson’s three regular season games against Atlanta, he has passed for 815 yards, five touchdowns, and an interception for a 98.7 rating. Meanwhile, in his last seven games on the road, Wilson has recorded 16 touchdowns and no interceptions for a 128.8 rating.

Running back Chris Carson had 65 rushing yards last week and is aiming for his third game in a row on the road with 100 or more rush yards. Carson has 726 scrimmage yards and four rush touchdowns in his past six games on the road.

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett posted 61 receiving yards and a touchdown catch in Week 7 and is going for his third game in a row against the NFC South with at least 100 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. Lockett has 75 or more receiving yards in the past two of three games on the road.

Rookie wide receiver D.K. Metcalf recorded 53 receiving yards last week and is ranked second among rookie wide receivers with 389 receiving yards so far this season.

On the other side of the ball, linebacker Bobby Wagner had 13 tackles, a pass deflection, and a forced fumble in Week 7. Wagner has 31 tackles for loss in three regular season games against Atlanta, and 59 tackles in six career games on the road against NFC South opponents. Since 2012, he ranks second in the league with 983 tackles.

K.J. Wright posted eight tackles and two pass deflection against the Ravens and is going for his fourth game on the road and his seventh game in a row overall with seven or more tackles.

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has posted three pass deflections, a forced fumbled, a fumble recovery and a 27-yard interception for a touchdown in his last four games on the road. Clowney also is one of four players with 25 or more sacks and at least 55 tackles for loss since 2016. Defensive tackle Jarran Reed has recorded four sacks in his past four games and posted a sack in his only career games against Atlanta in 2016.

Cornerback Shaquill Griffin is going for his third game in a row on the row with a pass deflection.

Atlanta enters Week 8 after losing to the Los Angeles Rams last week by a score of 37-10 and has recorded an average of 367.4 offensive yards per game and 387.7 defensive yards. Quarterback Matt Ryan has completed 202 of 285 passes for 2,170 yards, 15 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a rating of 98.7. Devonta Freeman has recorded 84 receptions for 294 yards and Julio Jones has posted 40 catches for 294 yards and four touchdowns. Grady Jarrett leads the team with two sacks, and Desmond Trufant leads the team with two interceptions. Kicker Matt Bryant has kicked 14 of 15 extra points and seven of 10 field goal attempts.

Quarterback Matt Schaub, expected to start in place of Ryan, completed six of six passes for 65 yards and a touchdown in Week 7 and has 720 pass yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions for a 93.9 rating in two career starts against Seattle. Schaub is aiming for his third start in a row against the Seahawks with two or more touchdown passes and 350 or more passing yards.

Freeman recorded 80 rushing yards, 45 receiving yards, and a rushing touchdown in his last game versus Seattle and has five such touchdowns in his past three games at home against an NFC West opponent.

Jones posted six catches for 93 yards in Week 7 and has 23 receptions for 337 yards and a receiving touchdown in three career regular season games versus Seattle. Jones is going for his fourth game in a row against Seattle with five or more catches and has posted 614 receiving yards and three touchdowns in six career games against the NFC West.

Tight end Austin Hooper had a touchdown catch in Week 7 and is going for his third game in a row against an NFC West club with a receiving touchdown. Hooper leads all tight ends in receptions, is tied for first in touchdown catches, and ranks second in receiving yards so far this season.

Young receiver Calvin Ridley has recorded a touchdown catch in the last two of three games.

On the defensive side, linebacker Deion Jones led the team with 11 tackles and tied his career-high with three tackles for loss last week against the Rams. He recorded his only home game interception versus Seattle in 2017.

Safety Damontae Kazee posted eight tackles and played his first career game with two tackles for loss in Week 7.

Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett also recorded a sack in the last meeting.
