Seattle Seahawks Pre Free Agency Seven Round Mock Draft

The Seattle Seahawks went 12-4 and won the NFC West in 2020. In the playoffs, they lost to the Rams in the Wild Card Round. They lost that game by a final score of 30-20 and will now look to improve their roster for the 2021 season. The NFC West is going to be one of the toughest divisions in the NFL this season.

This year’s draft is going to be very tough for the Seahawks. They only have four total picks and no first-round pick after they traded it to the New York Jets for Safety Jamal Adams last season. John Schneider always trades down in the draft, and he will likely do so again this year. Without further ado, it’s time to look at how the Seahawks should attack the draft with their current draft capital.

To help with this mock draft, I used The Draft Network’s mock draft simulator.

Round 2, Pick 56: Trey Smith, OG, Tennessee

This is one of the picks the Seahawks will likely end up trading to add more picks later in the draft. However, if they keep it, they need to get better at protecting Russell Wilson. That is assuming they do not end up trading Wilson of course. Smith is a guard out of Tennessee and was the number one recruit in the entire class of 2017. He had to overcome some medical issues in the 2018 season after he was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs. He came back his senior year and proved that those medical problems were in the past. Smith is very good in pass protection, and considering Wilson has been sacked 146 times in three seasons, that should be their main focus when drafting offensive lineman.

Round 4, Pick 129: Robert Hainsey OT, Notre Dame

With only four picks in this draft, the Seahawks need to address the offensive line with their early picks. Notre Dame offensive linemen have a very good track record of success in the NFL. Hainsey’s not the biggest offensive lineman, and that will likely concern many GMs. However, he makes up for that with his intelligence and technique. He’s currently a tackle but may be better as a guard in the NFL. Either way, the former four-star offensive lineman is a good developmental lineman with this pick.

Round 5, Pick 168: Shaka Toney, EDGE, Penn State

The Seahawks started their 2020 campaign as one of the worst defenses in the league. They started to get better as the season went on, then traded for edge rusher Carlos Dunlap to help the pass rush. However, Dunlap was just recently cut, saving the Seahawks 14 million dollars without any dead cap. They need to address the edge in the draft, and Toney would bring some much-needed pass rush. He had 20.5 sacks in his four years out of Penn St. He is very quick and explosive but could have a tough time getting past the top offensive tackles in the league. Toney is a much better pass rusher than run stopper and should be a good rotational pass rusher, especially on obvious passing situations.

Round 6, Pick 209: Robert Rochell, CB, Central Arkansas

Rochell has the framework to be a starting cornerback in the league. However, he is going to be a project, as are all of the other day three selections. He is about as raw as they come, but the Seahawks have had success developing cornerbacks late in the draft. Rochell at Central Arkansas was able to use his athleticism to mask his bad habits. If the Seahawks can develop his technique and get him adjusted to the speed in the NFL, he could become one of their starting cornerbacks within the next couple of seasons.
