The Dodgers and the Red Sox are in talks about a potential trade that would send Boston’s right fielder Mookie Betts to Los Angeles. According to ESPN’s Buster Olney (speaking on WEEI), the deal could also include left-handed pitcher David Price.
There are no details on what the Red Sox would get in return, but the assumption is a couple of the Dodgers’ prospects, which they always seem to have a healthy stockpile of. If Price is included, that would cut quite a bit of salary. Betts, who after reaching a deal with Boston to avoid salary arbitration, will make $27 million this season and could hit the free agent market after that. Price’s contract has him getting paid a total of $96 million over the next three years.
Over the past couple of days, Betts’s name has also been linked to the Padres, and the Dodgers’ interest and play for the right fielder have come out of left field.
To add Betts to a lineup that already includes Cody Bellinger, Joc Pederson (assuming he isn’t dealt to Boston), Corey Seager and Justin Turner would be insane. To have Clayton Kershaw and David Price in the same rotation wouldn’t be too shabby either.
