There is plenty of movement in the new AP Top-25 poll, so here are a few quick takeaways from the fresh rankings.

  1. Gonzaga
  2. Baylor
  3. Kansas
  4. Iowa
  5. Villanova
  6. Houston
  7. West Virginia
  8. Tennesse
  9. Wisconsin
  10. Texas
  11. Rutgers
  12. Michigan State
  13. Creighton
  14. Missouri
  15. Texas Tech
  16. Virginia
  17. North Carolina
  18. Illinois
  19. Michigan
  20. Duke
  21. Florida State
  22. Xavier
  23. Ohio State
  24. Virginia Tech
  25. Oregon

Rutgers is making moves!

Rutgers is moving up the poll very quickly, as they have moved up eight spots from #19. This past week the Scarlet Knights beat Maryland and #18 Illinois to move to 6-0. Ron Harper Jr. has gotten his team off to a great start and dropped 24 points in Sunday’s upset win over the Fighting Illini, who beat Duke this year.

Michigan State suffers from a last-minute loss

The Spartans have dropped eight spots to #12 after they were upset by Northwestern on Sunday night. They didn’t suffer a last-minute loss but it was a last-minute loss of sorts because it came the night before the new rankings were released and it dropped them to 12.

Expect Michigan State’s path to mirror Villanova’s path earlier this season. Jay Wright‘s team was upset early in the year by Virginia Tech and they dropped out of the top ten but then they went on a winning streak and now find themselves at #5.

Gonzaga isn’t going anywhere

Gonzaga is ranked as the top team in the country for the sixth week in a row (including the preseason poll) and they aren’t going to slip anytime soon. The Bulldogs beat then #6 Kansas by 12 in their first win of the season, then beat #7 West Virginia, and beat then #3 Iowa by 11 points on Saturday.

Jalen Suggs will make a run at being the #1 draft prospect over Cade Cunningham. He has shown out in every big game they’ve played this year even after his injury against West Virginia.

Mark Few’s next big game is the day after Christmas versus #17 Virginia and the Bulldogs shouldn’t have a problem staying undefeated.

Make sure to read the Daily Dunk every morning to catch up on last night’s biggest games and see what games you should watch that day.
