With a new owner in Steve Cohen and a new general manager in Jeff Porter, the New York Mets want to win now. The club from the Big Apple is looking to make moves that will make them winners in 2021.
There are a couple of players that the Mets are looking at getting. Those players are Nolan Arenado, Trevor Bauer, and George Springer. While the Mets are the team that most likely would land Arenado, they are focused on getting Springer, according to Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com.
Cohen prefers Springer, while Mets president Sandy Alderson prefers Bauer.
#Mets are moving closer to George Springer and/or Trevor Bauer. Ultimate target is TBD. I’m told @StevenACohen2 is leaning towards Springer; Alderson would like to sign Bauer. Either one would be a huge upgrade in Flushing.

Of the players that the Mets are interested in, who will they sign? The answer appears to be Springer. The Mets are the favorite to land the outfielder, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
While McCann got a great deal, since they didn’t spend much bigger for Realmuto this bodes well for the Mets to continue their pursuit of star CF George Springer. They’ve also talked to Trevor Bauer, but they are seen as a favorite for Springer.

Springer is a good fit and might be the best option. The former Astro would be an upgrade from current Mets outfielders Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto. Since 2017, the Mets’ center field defense has a -29 DRS (defensive runs saved). Springer’s DRS since 2017 is +14.
#Mets center field defense since 2017: -29 DRS
George Springer's center field defense since 2017: +14

Springer hit .265 with 14 home runs and 32 RBI this year. He is a three-time All-Star and has won a championship. He will be a huge help to the Mets offensively and defensively.
