The New York Knicks have shocked the NBA this season and are currently fifth place in the Eastern Conference. They could look to add another star to their roster prior to the trade deadline in hopes of making a strong playoff run, or trade for young talent in order to win in the future.
Let’s take a look at three players that the Knicks could target before the deadline.
Zach LaVine
LaVine is having the best season of his career right now and with the hopes of making a playoff run, adding another all-star player to their roster will be key for the Knicks. In order to beat some of the top talents in the Eastern Conference like the Brooklyn Nets, they will have to score the ball more. Luckily for the Knicks, LaVine is averaging 28.7 points per game which is sixth in the league. Adding LaVine would be the splash that would put the Knicks in finals contention, creating a big three of Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, and LaVine.
Victor Oladipo
Another splash the Knicks could make prior to the deadline would be acquiring Oladipo. It has been made clear to the Rockets that Oladipo is not interested in continuing to play for the organization after he declined a two-year, 45.2 million dollar extension. Oladipo is a talented two-way guard that would fit Tom Thibodeau’s system well. Although he is not playing at an all-star level anymore, Oladipo is still playing at a high level and would be able to deliver in high-intensity moments for the Knicks.
Marvin Bagley
Bagley is a name that has come up in trade rumors multiple times this season. While the Knicks can attempt to win now, their core is still very young, and adding a player like Bagley could be a great addition long term. After being selected second overall in 2018, Bagley has been unable to live up to the hype. He is a great offensive player who has shown flashes throughout his career of being able to score on all three levels. Since Bagley won’t come at an expensive price, the Knicks can take a risk on the former number two pick with hopes of unlocking his full potential long term.
