MLB DFS: Locks, Stacks, and Barrels for July 17, 2019

Joey Ricotta| July 17th, 2019

Pinch-hitting for your usual Wednesday Locks, Stacks, and Barrels host, I’m more than happy to attempt to help you win some cash. There are some weather concerns for this evening, so I’ve ignored players from those games. Recheck weather reports prior to setting your lineups. With that said, let’s get into this week’s edition of Locks, Stacks, and Barrels.

Locks

Mike Clevinger ($9,900)

Clev-dog is a huge favorite at home tonight against the Detroit Tigers. He’s fared better his last two starts than his first two since returning from the IL. Giving up only one run combined in his last 11 innings while striking out 15 batters. The Tigers strikeout the second-highest rate against right-handed pitchers at 25.9%. Clevinger has an insanely high 39.7% strikeout rate and has massive upside tonight.

Danny Duffy ($7,700)

Duffy gets a match-up against the scuffling Chicago White Sox. The Sox strikeout 24.2% vs lefties and an MLB low 28.3% hard contact rate against them. Glenn Sparkman of all people threw a complete game shutout against these Sox just a night ago. And the Sox have only scored seven runs in the five games since the All-Star break. I think Duffy will be able to limit the damage at the very least and pay off his salary.

Other Targets: Gerrit Cole and Trevor Richards

Stacks

Cleveland Indians vs Spencer Turnbull

Spencer Turnbull started out the season strong but teams have been figuring him out. He failed to make it past three innings of work his last time out and had a .351 wOBA against for the month of June.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Jesse Chavez

It’s hot in Texas with a high Vegas implied run total of 5.43 for the Dbacks. Chavez has had more struggles at home than not this season with eight of his 11 homers allowed coming there. He’s also allowing a .354 wOBA at home compared to .284 on the road.

Barrels

3B Jose Ramirez ($4,400)

J-Ram is riding an eight-game hitting streak into tonight. He’s doubled or homered with at least one RBI in each of his last four games. Lefties have a solid .355 wOBA against him this season. The Indians just saw Turnbull on June 22nd. Ramirez had an RBI triple vs Turnbull in that game.

2B/OF Ketel Marte ($5,200)

The Diamondbacks All-Star hasn’t skipped a beat since resuming play after the break. He’s 5-15 with hits in three of the four games played since. Marte gets a match-up against Jesse Chavez and the Texas Rangers suspect bullpen in a good hitters park.
