MLB DFS August 6: Locks, Stacks, and Barrels

Hopefully, you have all been winning some money and building that bankroll over the past couple of weeks. The season has gotten off to a strange start, but only about 12 games in, we still have 80% of it left. Today we will roll with the 6:00 pm slate which has seven games to choose from. Let’s take a look at who to have in those lineups tonight.

All prices are from DraftKings. Always make sure your player is starting. Good Luck!

Locks

Zac Gallen ($8,900) vs Houston Astros

The Arizona righty is picking up where he left off last season. He’s thrown 10 innings and has 15 Ks with a 2.70 ERA. Yes, he is facing the Astros, but they’ve seen a left-handed starter the past two nights in Robbie Ray and Madison Bumgarner. Gallen will give them a different look and offers great strikeout upside. As a bonus, the Diamondbacks offense woke up last night and they will be facing Brandon Bielak making his first MLB start. Gallen should get some run support.

Luis Castillo ($9,500) at Cleveland Indians

It should be a nice battle between him and Carlos Carrasco in the battle of Ohio tonight. Castillo has immense strikeout upside fanning 17 in 12 innings this season. Granted, both his starts came against the Detroit Tigers, but Cleveland’s offense is anything but a juggernaut at this point. The Tribe has scored 34 runs in 13 games, third-least in the American League. They’ve also struck out 116 times, third-most in the American League. Give me Castillo’s superior arsenal against a team that is batting .181 with a league-low .546 OPS.

Nate Pearson ($7,300) at Atlanta Braves

I guess his price reflects his opponent because this is criminally low Pearson. Yes, the Braves score runs(70, 2nd in the NL). They also strike out a lot (144, most in the NL). This bodes well for Pearson’s upside. Can the Ks pile up before Atlanta gets to the young righty? Possibly. They’ve never seen him and Pearson’s stuff is electric. I think this is a steal and a big bargain that won’t last long so get in now and cash in on the Blue Jay rookie.

Stacks

New York Yankees

If you can afford them…get them. The Bronx Bombers are doing their thing. Although a couple of big guns aren’t in the lineup tonight, Gio Urshela, Giancarlo Stanton, and Luke Voit all have OPSs over 1.000. Mike Tauchman is leading off and Aaron Hicks is batting third. Save some money by grabbing Pearson and you could add a couple of these guys in your lineup against Zac Eflin, who is making his season debut tonight. Eflin throws strikes and doesn’t miss bats. That is right in the Yankees’ wheelhouse.

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs will be facing another pitcher making his season debut tonight in Kansas City’s Brad Keller. Chicago will be looking for the sweep of the four-game (2 at home, 2 away) series with the Royals. Keller is a guy who doesn’t have swing-and-miss stuff and can lose the zone. The Cubs are a patient team and will make him put the ball over the plate. Look for the Cubs to get Keller out of the game by the third inning.

Barrels

Nick Castellanos ($4,500)

He has a 12-game hitting streak to begin the year and is currently a triple crown candidate. The dude is locked in and I’m actually surprised he isn’t more expensive. It may be because he is facing Carrasco. Ride the Castellanos train until it falls off the rails.

Jesus Aguilar ($4,200)

The big first baseman in Miami only has four hits on the season but three of them have gone over the wall. He is facing lefty Wade LeBlanc who has given up 31 bombs in his last 132 IP. Definitely boom or bust here, but Aguilar has a solid chance of putting one out tonight, maybe even two!

Yoan Moncada ($4,400)

The young White Sox slugger is having a solid year. He gets to face right-hander Josh Lindblom tonight. For his career, Moncada hits better from the left side of the plate with an .836 OPS (.706 vs lefties). Although the wind is slightly blowing in from left field tonight in Chicago, it will be clear and fairly cool for August. the ball will be jumping at Guaranteed Rate Field.
