Lane Johnson Signs Record-Breaking Extension with Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles made a splash on Black Friday afternoon by agreeing to a record-breaking four-year, $72 million extension with star offensive lineman, Lane Johnson. The deal includes nearly $55 million guaranteed. This is the most lucrative offensive lineman contract in NFL history in terms of both average annual value ($18 million) and guaranteed money.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the news. The team has confirmed the report.

Today’s agreement brings a massive raise for Johnson, who had been playing under a five-year, $56.26 million contract that would have expired in 2021. Thus, his new deal gives him an AAV raise of nearly $6.75 million. It’s worth noting that the new contract does not kick in until after his current deal expires in 2021. This means he’ll now be under contract through 2025.

This pact is one of many 2019 extensions, with the Eagles as the team has now extended Johnson, Brandon Brooks, Jason Kelce and Isaac Seumalo this year. That leaves Jason Peters as the only starting offensive lineman playing on a year-to-year basis, making for one solidified and reliable O-line.

Johnson, an Oklahoma product, was selected with the fourth pick in the 2013 draft. The 29-year-old, represented by Ken Sarnoff of Young Money APAA Sports, is a two-time Pro Bowler and First-Team All-Pro. Johnson has started every game he has appeared in, including all 16 games in 2013 and 2015, 15 games in 2017 and 2018, and 10 of the 11 games so far this season.
