On his ride to superstardom in the United States, Jett Lawrence picked up his second championship on a 250 since moving over from Australia. That of course being the Monster Energy Supercross 250 East Championship, which he officially wrapped up today in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Although the recent injury to Cameron McAdoo accelerated the title-winning process, it was only a matter of when Lawrence was going to pull this off. For Honda, this is their third 250 East Championship in the last four years, with Chase Sexton responsible for the previous two.

Getting the Job Done
Lawrence had a pretty easy road to get this 250 East title under wraps one round early. 18th or better would have gotten the job done, no matter how well R.J. Hampshire did on the day. Although it wasn’t a shock, Lawrence didn’t just ride around midpack earlier today. He bided his time behind Austin Forkner as the two carved their way to the front. Lawrence did go for a pass attempt but couldn’t seal the deal after Forkner went deep inside on the ensuing corner. No win here for the Jett, but he did exactly what he needed to do.

Racking up the Numbers
With one race still to go for the younger Lawrence brother, his 250 Supercross resume is already looking rather strong. Firstly, this is the first instance of an 18-year-old winning a 250 Supercross title going back to Ken Roczen with Red Bull KTM in 2013. Nextly, Lawrence now has an AMA Supercross and Motocross title already to his credit, getting both in just three years as a pro in the U.S. Some names to win both titles on a 250/125 include James Stewart, Travis Pastrana, Ryan Dungey, and Ricky Carmichael. Not too shabby for the pride of Queensland.
Now for Lawrence, there is no pressure entering the second 250 East/West Showdown in a couple of weeks in Salt Lake City. No points gap to manage when you’ve already got the job done. Furthermore, Honda could prioritize Motocross prep a few weeks early as well, as Lawrence is set to defend that Championship this summer. In any case, this may have been his first Supercross title, but it certainly won’t be his last.
