Onwuasor re-joins star linebacker C.J. Mosley, his former playing mate from their time together with the Baltimore Ravens. Together, the two formed a formidable linebacker tandem in Baltimore as they combined for 164 tackles, six sacks, eight pass breakups, and two interceptions in 2018.
When Mosley departed in free agency to Gang Green, the Ravens had viewed Onwuasor as the heir apparent to Mosley and were hoping that he would fill the void that he left.
The 27-year-old appeared in 14 games in 2019, tackling 64, compiling three sacks, and recording a pass deflection. Over the last two seasons, he has 8.5 sacks.
Last season, he was benched after five games despite his fairly decent performance.
This signing is another strong move by Joe Douglas and it creates great depth for the Jets on defense.
