Top Ten Best Available NFL Draft Day Two

With Day 1 of the NFL Draft now in the books, all eyes look to rounds two and three on Friday. While the bulk of top-tier names heard their names called last night, there is still a boatload of talented players to choose from. Here is the list of the ten best available players as the beginning of round two approaches later tonight.

No. 1 Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Linebacker, Notre Dame

The biggest shock of the night on Thursday evening was Owusu-Koramoah not hearing his name called. The reigning Butkus Award winner saw fellow linebackers Micah Parsons, Zaven Collins, and Jamin Davis all get picked before him. Now he is likely to be the hottest commodity available through the morning hours before the draft and straight to pick 33. Owusu-Koramoah has elite sideline to sideline range and is as versatile as they come. Jacksonville, or whoever ends up picking first on Friday will likely have Owusu-Koramoah as a top option.

No. 2 Trevon Moehrig-Woodard, Safety, Texas Christian

The consensus number one safety will also likely be taken swiftly on Day 2. It did not feel like there were many teams who had a pressing need at safety, and those that did went elsewhere in round one. Moehrig-Woodard is likely to be a pure centerfielder in the secondary and has superb range and ball skills. Like Owusu-Koramoah, do not be surprised if Moehrig-Woodard goes early on Friday evening.

No. 3 Christian Barmore, Interior Defensive Tackle, Alabama

Barmore felt like a good fit for Tampa Bay right at the end of round one. However, the reigning champions opted to go with Washington pass rusher Joe Tryon. Barmore would be a great fit for most 3-4 fronts and is very athletic for the position. With a lighter than usual defensive tackle group. Barmore could begin an early run for defensive tackles.

No. 4 Samuel Cosmi, Offensive Tackle, Texas

In a surprising turn of events, just five offensive linemen were selected in round one of the draft. Cosmi could very well likely start the run for tackles on the other side of the ball on Friday. Cosmi was Sam Elhinger’s blindside blocker in Texas and was the anchor of that unit in his three years playing. At 6’7” and 305 pounds, Cosmi is a monster of a man, you cannot teach his size. And since you can never have too much offensive line depth, a ton of teams should hope to acquire Cosmi’s services.

No. 5 Javonte Williams, Running Back, North Carolina

With Najee Harris and Travis Etienne off the board, Williams almost certainly will be the first back taken on Friday. Williams had a monster 2020 campaign, running for 1,140 yards on just 157 carries, averaging 7.3 yards a carry, and had 19 touchdowns. Williams could very well end up the best value pick this entire weekend depending on where he ends up. Look for teams like Atlanta or Arizona to target the Tar Heels’ bell cow.

No. 6 Asante Samuel Jr, Cornerback, Florida State

The son of former all-pro cornerback Asante Samuel Sr projects at the top of his position after night one. In his career at Florida State, Samuel had just four career picks, however, was still a great man-to-man cover guy. With there still being some cornerback needy teams, Samuel will likely be off the board quickly on Friday. Look for Philadelphia as a possible landing spot.

No. 7 Pat Freiermuth, Tight End, Penn State

The pride of Newburyport, MA has long been one of the consensus top three tight ends in the class. Freiermuth in his two full seasons at Penn State put up 15 touchdowns on 69 catches and 875 yards. The numbers took a dip in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 but not terribly, outside of the touchdowns where he only tallied one. Philadelphia feels like a good spot in the event Zach Ertz finds a new home, also look out for Dallas, and maybe even the Los Angeles Rams if he does fall that far.

No. 8 Azeez Ojulari, EDGE, Georgia

Ojulari was a menace on the edge for Georgia in his two years as a starter for the program. 14 sacks, five fumbles forced, and 67 tackles. With Payton Turner, and Jaelan Phillips going earlier than expected, Ojulari now is destined to fall into someone’s lap early in round two. And when he is selected, Ojulari could end up the steal of the weekend. Atlanta, Miami, and the New York Jets feel like logical landing spots.

No. 9 Teven Jenkins, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma State

Jenkins, like Cosmi, is a big bodied tackle, standing at 6’6” and weighing in at 320 pounds. He spent time in 2020 playing at both left and right tackle which could open his potential landing spots. Not to sound like a broken record, but teams can never have too much offensive line depth. A whole bevy of teams should be in on Jenkins, and he likely could go earlier than where he is listed here.

No. 10 Dillon Radunz, Offensive Tackle, North Dakota State

New 49ers signal-caller Trey Lance is not the only prospect to come from North Dakota State to this year’s draft. Radunz, despite being at a smaller school, is still an exceptionally good tackle prospect. He was an excellent run blocker in college and is a good athlete for a tackle. Radunz could possibly play close to anywhere on the line. Primarily a left tackle, Radunz took senior bowl reps at guard. Like his tackle peers, he should have his fair share of suitors.
