Is It Time for the Bruins to Trade a Goalie?

With the Bruins in possession of two goaltenders who are currently in the zone, should they consider trading one of them to acquire another player for a potential Stanley Cup run?

The short answer:

No. Absolutely not. It is one of the foolish things they could possibly do if they want to make a playoff run.

The long answer:

Two good goalies are great insurance. Fans may be eager to trade either Anton Khudobin or Tuukka Rask, but for a team as snake bitten as the Bruins, it doesn’t make sense.

The odds are likely that one of the two could get hurt at some point, and having a second good goalie in your arsenal could make or break a season.

Just look at the 2016-2017 Penguins for example. Matt Murray went down in the first round of the playoffs, and Marc-Andre Fleury was able to weather the storm until the Eastern Conference Final.

Having two high quality goalies will also help with fatigue. Rask was awesome last season, but come playoff time he was too tired to carry the load anymore.

He played far too many games in the 2016-2017 season, but if Khudobin can help take off the load, the Bruins will have two fresh goalies should they make the playoffs.

It’s easy to want to deal Rask or Khudobin while they’re hot, but in the long run, the potential risk does not equal the potential reward.
