Floyd, Green Carry Crusaders Over Army

The Holy Cross Crusaders bested the Army Black Knights 70-66 in after losing a large lead late in the game to claim their second Patriot League win.

The Crusaders led Army (11-7, 4-3) by 11 at halftime after dominating most of the first half. The Black Knights slowly chipped away at the Holy Cross lead, going on a 17-6 run, until they eventually overtaking them with 5:56 left in the half, with the score at 58-57.

Both teams exchanged the lead late on, but the victory was sealed for the Crusaders after freshman forward Jacob Grandison hit two three-pointers in a one minute span.

 

Junior forward Jehyve Floyd totaled 18 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks, leading the Crusaders in all three categories. Freshman guard Caleb Green 15 points in what was his first double-digit scoring night since he scored 11 points in a 60-48 loss to Lafayette. Junior forward Karl Charles scored 11 points and led the team with five assists.

Sophomore forward Matthew Wilson led Army with 17 points, also adding seven rebounds. Junior guard Jordan Fox scored 16 points and led the Black Knights with nine rebounds, while Sophomore guard Thomas Funk scored 10 points and led his team with five assists.

The Crusaders continued their common theme of being outrebounded even when they win, as Army grabbed eight more rebounds than Holy Cross. In the end, Holy Cross’s shooting made the difference, as they shot 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.

The Crusaders (5-13, 2-5) are still tied for last in the Patriot League and next faceoff away from home against Patriot League leaders Bucknell (12-8, 6-1) on Jan. 20 at noon.
