One of the journalism creeds is to ‘follow the money’ and like all jobs, you just want to find a way to make a living.
However, Dominic Damiano of Four Deep Sports Talk is doing what he’s passionate about but without what supposedly what makes the world go around. His journey began in 2005, where he sought to expose work from students that he believed deserved publicity.
“In 2005, I used to have a show in Taunton, Massachusetts called talking Taunton Sports, I wanted the high school and youth kids in Taunton to get recognized for all the hard work,” Damiano said. “Then in 2008 I started the radio show on WVBF 1530 am in Taunton Mass, then I really started to reach out to the South Easton Mass Community to High School and Youth athletes. For the past three years, I have been on WARA1320 and reaching out to that community.”
This includes giving children with autism and other disabilities a chance to write and have their voice heard on sports topics that they are passionate about.
The Brockton Native learned the meaning of team when he spent time serving in the United States Navy—earning two accommodations. After his service, he created Four Deep Sports Talk after receiving inspiration from coaching hockey, baseball, football, and basketball.
He does this all with his partner in this project, Rhode Island native Luce Cabra, l who found her sports passion later on after majoring in piano and voice at Berklee College of Music. She also received a degree in public relations and advertising from Johnson and Wales University.
Cabra decided to get her communications degree from Bristol Community College after finding her love for journalism finding different jobs and internships that have to do with the field.
“I interned with Four Deep Sports Talk Show, TV9 Seekonk and FRCTV Media News Fall River while having my own “I Love Luce” radio show at BCC,” Cabral said on her bio on Four Deep Sports Talk. “The experiences and relationships I’ve made while interning at BCC gave me the motivation I needed to make a dream a reality in radio broadcasting and video/TV production.”
She has also dipped her toe into other facets of the field which voice-over talent for commercials as well as public service announcements. She’s also served as a videographer, technical director and producer for cable access television stations in towns all around Massachusetts such as Fall River, Bridgewater, Taunton, and Attleboro.
Damiano has a goal to have his voice heard through print and podcasts but puts the kids who work with him at the front of the line to give them a chance to impress not only themselves but the people most important to them.
“Our website is a way for all our fans, parents to watch their kids in the studio,” Damiano said. “We have a podcast link to listen audio wise, a link to our Facebook page live on game day if we’re out at a particular location, or Saturday live in studio at noon. It also helps us promote the sponsors that support us and help us, our supporters are great they really help us out.”
