Going from 13-3 to not winning the NFC East, the Dallas Cowboys have certainly had the rollercoaster ride of the decade. With drama circulating on an ongoing basis, this team never gets a break from the media. The Cowboys are dealing with a multitude of problems ranging from their porous defense to their unsigned quarterback. With so many issues Jerry Jones may need to grab excellent value at every pick in this draft, especially with the Washington Football Team now contending for the lead in the division. Note: the mock draft simulator did not include the 7th round Jeff Heath compensatory pick.

Round 1, Pick 10: Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
It is obvious that the Cowboys need secondary help, especially with potentially losing three corners (two starting) to free agency. Although the tape shows red flags with Surtain’s speed, his talent is undeniable. Also, he is a perfect scheme fit with his former college teammate, Trevon Diggs. So long as the Cowboys get safety help over the top, the speed will not become too much of a factor.
Round 2, Pick 44: Trevon Moehrig, SAF, TCU
How convenient, the Cowboys now have a solidified safety core. Donovan Wilson showed great promise last year, so adding a dynamic threat in Moehrig will certainly solve the problem. Hailing from TCU, Moehrig will also be playing just minutes from his former home. In short, the Cowboys get the best safety in the class along with a hometown favorite.

Round 3, Pick 75: Brevin Jordan, TE, Miami
This is a pure luxury pick. Although the defensive front needs to be improved, the tight end position is far from settled. Jordan is looked at as a top 25 prospect according to our scouting report. Jerry Jones seems to always get a steal with each pick, and he continues to do so here. With Dak Prescott still up in the air on his contract, this may show that Jones still cares about his potential franchise player. Jordan is an elite pass-catching weapon that has blocking upside.

Round 3, Pick 99: Patrick Jones II, EDGE, Pittsburgh
What a steal. This may seem like a ridiculous spot for Jones to fall to, but his reps at the Senior Bowl could push him down draft boards. Demarcus Lawrence needs a legitimate running mate after losing Aldon Smith. Jones was amongst the best edge rushers in college as part of a vaunted Pittsburgh defense. The Cowboys could go IDL here if they believe in the development of Bradlee Anae.
Round 4, Pick 115: Marvin Wilson, IDL, Florida State
Marvin Wilson has officially fallen from a first-round talent to a fourth-round selection. Neville Gallimore and Trysten Hill should not be the only IDLs that could have any impact on the roster. Wilson will provide major upside in both the run and pass game. Due to his draft position, Wilson will not have to be an immediate impact. He can rather take time to return to his game-wrecking form. In the long run, this may be the steal of the draft.
Round 4, Pick 139: Walker Little, OT, Stanford
With Tyron Smith seeming to get injured every year, the future at left tackle seems to be uncertain. Little has only played one game in the past two years, but his upside suggests that he may be worth a top-10 pick if he played those games. This is the ideal situation for taking a shot at the potential future of the offensive line. Little can easily sit and get back up to speed by the time he starts.
Round 5, Pick 179: Kuony Deng, LB, California
With Sean Lee potentially retiring or leaving in free agency, the Cowboys might need to address this issue in free agency in the short term. Deng is a very raw prospect. At 6’6’’ 250 lbs, he has the perfect build for a developmental prospect. Deng is known as an amazing locker room player as well, so for once, personality issues will not be a factor. This may be a pick that disappears within a few months, but the upside of developing Deng into a superstar is just too good to pass up on. Jerry Jones is getting older, so the idea of potentially having three superstar linebackers at once would definitely intrigue him.
Round 6, Pick 194: Shane Buechele, QB, SMU
Andy Dalton has left the building. With Ben DiNucci as the only guaranteed starter on the roster next year (and obviously the only real backup to Prescott), the backup role will certainly be wide open. Buechele is from Dallas not to mention playing for SMU, located in the heart of Dallas. He brought SMU into the top 25 (at some point) both years he played, so the Dallas community has taken a liking to the savior of SMU football. Buechele has a high floor with a relatively low ceiling, so he will be perfect as a backup.
Round 7, Pick 232: Marco Wilson, CB, Florida
Losing three cornerbacks definitely warrants taking another shot at the position in the draft. Thanks to his shoe-throwing incident, Wilson has fallen tremendously. He is far from starter material, but Wilson has shown tools in man coverage that certainly justifies taking him for his upside. As a fourth or fifth corner, Wilson would be perfect to substitute in when a starter gets injured.
