The Holy Cross Crusaders were blown out by the Navy Midshipmen 69-34 shortly after news that three Crusaders players were suspended.

Prior to the game, news broke that junior Karl Charles and sophomores Will Powers and Jack Stevens were suspended by the school for violating NCAA rules. Head coach Bill Carmody addressed the situation after the game, reading from a statement issued by the school.
“This weekend Holy Cross Athletics was made aware of potential NCAA violations involving current student-athletes. Those athletes have been placed on interim suspension from team activity pending a full investigation.”
Carmody did not elaborate on the violations and did not give a timetable for the trio’s return.
Holy Cross responded to this controversy by putting up their worst offensive performance of the season as they dropped a season-low 34 points, which was also their second-lowest scoring output in school history. The Crusaders shot an abysmal 27.9 percent from the field, only managing to sink 12 of their 43 shots, and shot 12 percent from three-point range.
No crusaders player managed to score double-digits in the rout, as the team was led by junior Jehyve Floyd’s nine points on 4-of-6 shooting. Star freshman guard Austin Butler was scoreless on the night, missing all five of his shots from the field.

The Midshipmen (16-10, 7-6) were led by freshman guard Cam Davis, who scored 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Junior forward George Kiernan scored 14 points and led Navy in rebounds with seven. Senior guard Bryce Dulin scored 12 points and added six rebounds.
The Crusaders (8-16, 5-8) are tied for eighth in the Patriot League and next face off in a Turnpike Trophy matchup against Boston University on Feb. 10 at 1 p.m.
