Chicago Bears 7 Round Mock Draft

Daniel Corrigan | April 18th, 2019

The Bears are coming off a shocking season. It all started with the Kahlil Mack trade. They followed that up with having the best defense in football and winning the NFC North at 12-4. A heartbreaking loss in the divisional round to the Eagles on a double-doinked kick leaves the Bears with a lot of questions. The first, who will they draft?

In the offseason, the Bears have bolstered their already elite defense. Adding defensive-backs Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Buster Skrine. The Bears could still use some secondary depth and will look for some steals in the middle rounds.

On the offensive side, the Bears traded away RB, Jordan Howard to the Eagles for a 2020 sixth-round pick. They also lost former seventh-overall pick Kevin White to the Cardinals. While White never really panned out, the Bears lose a valuable skill player.

The Bears need to hit a home run to get really better in this draft. They do not own a first or second-round pick. They need to find defensive depth, as well as skill player depth. Here’s my official mock draft for the Chicago Bears.

*No predicted trades will be in this mock.

Round 3 Pick 87- Miles Sanders, RB Penn State

The running back position is not a dire need for the Bears. Tarik Cohen is a damn-good football player who will be great as RB1 for the Bears. It can’t hurt to have a good young back. Sanders had huge shoes to fill at Penn State, replacing Saquon Barkley. He has great lateral speed and showed his ability to run through the tackles. Sanders was my “steal of the draft.” I’m not sure he will be around for the Bears to take, but if he is, they need to jump all over him.

Round 4 Pick 126- Kendall Sheffield, CB Ohio State

Sheffield has the talent to be a first-round pick, but he has the work ethic of a mid-round player. Which is surprising, especially being at Ohio State which has bred great secondary players. His biggest problem, he is way too soft. I am an Ohio State student. I have gone to every game. Every time, Sheffield finishes a play on the ground. I was hesitant on having him fall to the fourth round because he has way too much natural talent, but to put it in an easier term, he needs to toughen up. Like I said before, the Bears don’t have a glaring need. This would be a “project” to pick Sheffield. He is a high risk, high reward pick.

Round 5 Pick 162- Sheldrick Redwine, S Miami

Again, this draft is all about depth for the Bears. Clinton-Dix may only be here for a year. With the Bear’s identity being defensive, depth is their most important need. Redwine is stupid-athletic. He ran a 4.44 40 time, had a 39in vertical, and a 130in broad jump. Man, can this kid hit. He is not afraid to clean your clock. Especially being a smaller guy, this just shows his natural-born toughness. He needs to work on coverage skills. Sometimes, I think he is just a little lazy. He has the opportunity to become a special-teams all-star, but can be a tone setter for a great defense.

Round 7 Pick 222- Olisaemeka Udoh, OT Elon

It’s always funny to see these wild schools getting some love in the late rounds. Udoh probably won’t make the roster, but the Bears have the ability to take a risk on a late-round lineman. Udoh is a big boy, he is naturally strong, and is incredibly smart. He was an all-scholar athlete in North Carolina. His biggest issue is his athleticism. He is not very fast, has slow feet, and is late in his pass sets. If he wants any shot to be on the 53 man roster, he needs to work on his feet and athleticism.

Round 7 Pick 238- Trace McSorley, QB Penn State

The Bears have their QB of the future in Mitch Trubisky, but its always good to have some young depth in case of some sort of tragedy. McSorley is not going to beat you with his arm. He only completed 52% of his passes in his senior year. His whole career was over-shadowed by Barkley and if my predictions hold true, fellow Chicago Bear, Miles Sanders. He is really athletic. He had the fastest 40 time of any QB at the combine and is better with his feet than most. He has decent out-of-pocket accuracy. He also has times were his accuracy goes down the drain. He is very small, had 11 passes batted at the line last season, and had times where he panicked under pressure. Its always good to have a young QB on the roster. McSorley could be the pick here if the Bears are willing to work on his passing game.

The Bears need to focus on depth. They have no glaring needs. They will probably win the NFC North once again, and they are my dark-horse to go to the Superbowl. Trubisky took huge steps last season, and I predict he has his breakout season in 2019. Now, I may be a little biased towards Trubisky. I watched him play HS ball many times. If he can step up and play like the second-overall pick, the Bears will be unstoppable.
