Cardinals’ Game vs. Brewers Postponed After 2 Pitchers Test Positive for COVID-19

Major League Baseball postponed the St. Louis Cardinals-Milwaukee Brewers game on Friday.

The postponement is a result of two Cardinals pitchers testing positive for the coronavirus. The Cardinals learned of the positive tests Thursday night and have instructed all players and staff to self-isolate in their hotel rooms until further notice.

The postponed game has been rescheduled for Sunday and will be part of a doubleheader. MLB and the MLB Players Association announced on Friday that doubleheaders will now be seven innings.

“We are supportive of Major League Baseball’s decision to postpone today’s game and look forward to playing our home opener as soon as conditions safely allow,” Brewers president/general manager David Stearns said in a statement. “The health and safety of our players and employees are, and will continue to be, our top priorities.”

The Cardinals’ postponement comes after the Miami Marlins have had a COVID-19 outbreak. All Marlins games through Sunday have been postponed. The Marlins have had 20 positive tests, including 18 by players.

The Cardinals and Brewers join the Marlins, Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals, and Toronto Blue Jays as teams that have been affected by the fallout of positive COVID-19 tests.
