Conference USA Championship: Western Kentucky vs. North Texas

Western Kentucky looks for its first NCAA tournament bid in this one after holding off UAB, 64-60, last night. North Texas also pulled out a close one, winning 54-48 over Louisiana Tech. The line on this one, Western Kentucky (-1), is way too close for me to be comfortable with taking as it really could go either way. These two teams didn’t meet in the regular season and Western Kentucky is the ultimate Cinderella team. The Hilltoppers knocked off likely two-seed Alabama and bubble team Memphis which would have given them an at-large bid if not for three conference losses. With a win tonight, they will be a double-digit seed that will be dangerous against a single-digit team. Charles Bassey will be a first-round pick as he leads the team in points per game (17.9) rebounds per game (11.5), and blocks per game (3.2). They also have Taveion Hollingsworth who has scored 13.9 PPG.

This game will go down to the wire but ride Bassey and the Hilltoppers to get their bid for the tourney on the Moneyline.

Cap’n Kielar’s Pick: Western Kentucky ML (-120)

Southland Tournament Final: Nicholls vs. Abilene Christian (-7) and over 145.5

The Nicholls Colonels are the top-scoring team in the conference, but they will be facing an Abilene Christian Wildcat defense that is one of the best in the country, allowing 60.7 PPG. The Wildcats also score at a high rate (78.5 PPG) with three different players averaging over 10 PPG. Kolton Kohl has scored 12.5 PPG, while Joe Pleasant – also the leading rebounder (5.3 rebounds per game) and Coryon Mason have scored 10.7 PPG. The Colonels defense hasn’t been great this season either as they rank sixth in the conference.

Nicholls shot well against Northwestern last night, connecting on 30 of their 60 field goal attempts (50 percent). They did, however, struggle from behind the arc at 20.8 percent. Both these teams have scored a lot of points lately and could definitely hit the over while Abilene Christian wins and covers the spread.

Cap’n Kielar’s Pick: Albiene Christian (-7) and over 145.5

WAC Tournament Final: Grand Canyon (+2) vs. New Mexico State

Grand Canyon won the regular-season conference championship outright this season and beat New Mexico State twice by an average of 10 points per game. New Mexico State has been rolling after struggling through relocation due to COVID-19, winning seven of eight by double-digits. Meanwhile, Grand Canyon finished the regular season 3-3 after a 20-day pause. New Mexico State will be killed inside tonight. Seven-footer Asbjorn Midtgaard and six-foot-10 Alessandro Lever are tough matchups as the pair have averaged a combined 26 PPG and 12.5 RPG this season. Grand Canyon will hit the glass and outmatch the Aggies.

Cap’n Kielar’s Pick: Grand Canyon (+2)

Pac-12 Championship: Colorado vs. Oregon State (+9)

Oregon State got to this point by knocking off UCLA in overtime in the quarterfinals and Pac-12 one seed Oregon in the semifinals. This game will be a tight matchup and I will take the points all day, every day. Colorado won their last two matchups by a combined five points, while the Beavers beat the Ducks by 11 points as 8.5 point underdogs. Oregon State has two scorers in the teens, as Ethan Thompson averages 15.6 PPG and Jardo Lucas averages 12.9 PPG.

Cap’n Kielar’s Pick: Oregon State (+9)

Good luck tonight!
