In a notable hit to this year’s AMA Pro Motocross 250 class, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Cameron McAdoo has sustained a major injury. He stated late on Tuesday night that he suffered a fractured tibia during the opening round of AMA Pro Motocross. During 250 Moto 2,
McAdoo was down and in pain near the mechanic’s area, as shown on the broadcast. McAdoo did not seem to put any weight on his left leg from this point on. At the time he went down, McAdoo was running in the top ten in the moto. McAdoo got carried off track then loaded onto the Alpinestars Medical Unit’s cart. This would be an unfortunate end to McAdoo’s day, officially scoring a 20th overall going 15-37.
Kawasaki Statement:
Despite the optics of McAdoo’s injury not looking great, Kawasaki had this to say on Monday regarding him on their website.
“I’m disappointed with how things went today. I was really looking forward to starting the season strong and felt prepared after the extra few weeks following supercross, so this was a hard pill to swallow. I hurt my leg and it started giving me problems early into Moto 2, so I will need to get it checked out before we head to Colorado.”
An interesting note about heading to Colorado (Thunder Valley) at the end. Perhaps the team or McAdoo had a good initial outlook on his injury. McAdoo regardless, had his leg checked out at some point before Tuesday evening presumably. Because the Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider would take to Instagram late on Tuesday night to give his injury outlook.

Straight from the man himself. An absolute bummer for McAdoo, his team, and fans of the sport. According to our own Dr. Beth Sullivan, the technical term for this injury is a Tibial Avulsion fracture, and the expected recovery time should be a little over six months. The bad news here is this should likely end his year. This is an unusual injury in an adult because normally the ACL tears before the bone breaks. In McAdoo’s case, the tibia gave under the force exerted on the knee before the ACL could tear.
But back to McAdoo to close this out. With the amount of punishment he has taken this year on top of his upcoming rehab/recovery, some time to reset for 2022 Supercross could end up being a good thing. Even more so if McAdoo runs in the 250 class that starts second next year. In any case, we wish nothing but the best for McAdoo in his time off. His rise into being a supercross championship contender was one of the best feel-good stories of the year. Also is one of the easiest riders to like in a sport where there is no shortage of them.
