Despite previous reports, the New England Patriots did not release wide receiver Jordan Matthews, instead electing to place him on the injured reserve list.
The Patriots wound up placing WR Jordan Matthews on injured reserve, per source. He could negotiate an injury settlement and eventually become a free agent. For now, he does not count towards their 90-man roster.

The wide receiver sustained a hamstring injury during Sunday’s practice and it seems to be more serious than previously anticipated.
The Patriots signed receivers Paul Turner and Devin Lucien in a span of days to help the depth at the position.
Even though the team worked out Eric Decker, the team elected to sign fullback Henry Poggi to take his spot on the 90-man roster.
Matthews joins injured receivers Kenny Britt and Malcolm Mitchell who have yet to practice in training camp.
