The NASCAR Cup Series is back with another week of racing. This week, they head to Darlington for the Goodyear 400. New for 2021 is throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway for the spring race. This year you’ll see the throwback paint schemes for this weekend’s race rather than on Labor Day weekend. Let’s jump right into the top bets for Sunday’s contest.
All odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.
Outright Winner
Chase Elliott (+1000)
The reigning champ has not been able to find victory lane at Darlington in his career. However, in last year’s playoff race at Darlington, he looked great while leading 114 laps. He still held the lead with 13 laps remaining before getting caught up in a wreck with Martin Truex Jr. Elliott has yet to win this year and is very much due for a trip to victory lane. Even though he doesn’t have a win he has run solid. If Elliott can find the speed to put a full race together look for him to be in contention for the win on Sunday.
Race Props
Erik Jones – Top Five Finish (+800)
Jones has never finished worse than eighth in in six career races at Darlington. In those six races, he has finished in the top five four times. Darlington is his best track, and outside of the Daytona this is the only track Jones has won on in his Cup career. He knows the racing surface and is very good at managing his tires at this abrasive track. Jones won the Pro-Invitational at Darlington in the iRacing series Wednesday night.
Better Finishing Position – Erik Jones (-114) or Aric Almirola
Jones is a very good bet at these odds in the head-to-head matchup. In his six career races at Darlington, he has finished better than Almirola in every race. Though Almirola is in better equipment, Jones has plenty of talent to make up for that, especially since he runs so well at Darlington. Look for Jones to continue his success there and if he does not finish top-five, he should be able to cover your loses by beating Almirola.
Austin Dillon – Top Ten Finish (+160)
Dillon has run well at Darlington of late. He came up just short of winning last year’s playoff race, finishing runner-up. In his previous five races before that, he finished top-11 three times including two top-ten finishes. Even better news for Dillon is that he is also coming into the race on the strength of three straight top-ten finishes. To get him at positive odds is an excellent value to throw some money on.
