The NFL season continues to roll strong throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Some teams are looking at their schedule and predicting where they will be seeded in the playoffs. Others, meanwhile, are looking to the schedule to determine what draft picks they will have in April’s draft.
In a game that was expected to be a blowout, the Jacksonville Jaguars kept it close against the Green Bay Packers. The final score of 24-20 was barely off of the predicted 27-20 from earlier in the week from the preview. The Packers fought back from their early struggles to win the game as the defense smothered Jake Luton on the final drive to earn the victory.
During the first few weeks of the 2019 season, the Miami Dolphins seemed to be tasked with a long rebuild ahead of them. With Chris Grier as the general manager, he hired former Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores as the new head coach. Grier was hired as the general manager in 2016 after being the team’s director of college scouting. Behind Grier and Flores, the Dolphins underwent a massive makeover and culture shift.
The 1-7 Jacksonville Jaguars head north to take on the 6-2 Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The Packers will be returning a few starters on offense but will be without Jaire Alexander, who was listed as doubtful as he is in the concussion protocol. Green Bay needs to win this game to keep pace with Seattle and New Orleans for the top spot in the NFC.
As a Green Bay Packer fan, it has been quite the journey since last year’s NFC championship exit. The team added Devin Funchess, Christian Kirksey, and Rick Wagner via free agency, a solid start to the offseason. Then, instead of drafting a receiver or linebacker in the first round of the draft, Green Bay traded up to take Jordan Love, a quarterback, who won’t see the field until 2022 barring injury.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were close to an upset over the Texans but fell just short. Houston won by a score of 27-25 in a high-powered offensive battle. The Jaguars lose their seventh-straight game, albeit there were some very impressive plays from Jacksonville.
If you had told any Jacksonville Jaguars fan that Gardner Minshew would be benched in 2020, they would’ve run you out of town. After a great rookie season where he had 21 touchdowns to only six interceptions, Jacksonville fans went all-in on him. Halfway through the season and sitting at 1-6, the Jaguars have now benched the mustached wonder due to a thumb injury.
A duo of 1-6 teams will do battle on Sunday. The Houston Texans travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars. Houston has done better since the firing of Bill O’Brien but is still struggling. Jacksonville, meanwhile, has now benched Gardner Minshew and will start Jake Luton instead. The two teams will battle it out to see who can win, or in Jacksonville’s case, “win” by losing and getting a higher draft pick.
The NFL playoff race is starting to heat up. While most media platforms are focusing on the Seattle against Buffalo and Tampa Bay against New Orleans games, the biggest game of the week could be in Indianapolis. The Baltimore Ravens will travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts.
We are halfway through the 2020 NFL season. The draft order is starting to take shape, and teams are finally seeing all of their hard work either pay off or go down the drain. Some organizations are looking towards the draft to find new players, maybe even a quarterback and some teams are focused on the playoffs.
The Indianapolis Colts continued their early success on the 2020 season on Sunday. The Colts beat the Detroit Lions by a score of 41-21 led by Philip Rivers and a defense that continues to impress. This game went about as expected but was less competitive than many anticipated.
On Sunday, 500 people will be able to watch the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions play in Ford Field. The 4-2 Colts are coming off of their bye week and look to continue their success against the 3-3 Lions. Detroit will look to keep pace with the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers in the NFC North, while the Colts look to keep pace with the Titans in the AFC South and Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens in the wild card race.
