This last weekend, Trevon Moehrig followed in Ar’Darius Washington’s footsteps by declaring for the draft. The safety tandem was the best in college football, and now both will be in the NFL following April’s draft. Moehrig is the better of the two and has a chance to be the first safety selected in the draft.
Yes, you read that title right. For the first time since 2002, the Cleveland Browns have clinched a playoff berth. One of the NFL’s most prestigious franchises in the history of the league for the first few decades has gone through utter disappointment ever since. From “The Fumble” to “The Drive”, then the move to Baltimore, to coming back as a team, the Browns have gone through a lot.
Tylan Wallace has been on the NFL’s radar for some time now. He has had a significant drop in the rankings thanks to other receivers having elite production in this covid-plagued season. In another stacked receiver class, Wallace could be a steal found on day two for a receiver-needy team looking for a number two option outside of their top threat.
The Washington Football Team has endured a lot over the last year. From the firing of Jay Gruden to the team hiring Ron Rivera to the name change, and the variety of different accusations over the last year, things haven’t been the best. Yet again, Washington is in the spotlight following the release of Dwayne Haskins on Monday.
While many have improved their draft stock this season, maybe no player has more than Javonte Williams. Even though he is splitting time with Michael Carter for the Tarheels, Williams has made the most of his opportunities. Now, he’s thought of as a mid-day two candidate thanks to his explosiveness and play-style, especially after his game against Miami.
There are only three weeks left of the regular season. Teams are jockeying for playoff spots and higher playoff seeding. Then, some teams are vying for a top draft pick. Ahead of Week 15’s games, here’s a two-round mock draft featuring three trades.
Dylan Moses has been on the NFL’s radar since he received scholarships from LSU and Alabama in eighth grade. Once thought of as the next great linebacker, Moses was earning early-first round hype before he tore his ACL during a practice before the 2019 season and opted to return to Alabama for his senior season. This year has been a bit of a struggle for Moses as he switched to the MIKE linebacker role for the Crimson Tide. He has since gone from being potentially the best linebacker in the class to potentially the fourth or fifth-best.
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has been touted as the second-best linebacker in the class behind Penn State’s Micah Parsons. The two have similar skillsets that make them highly coveted at the next level. Owusu-Koramoah is well-known for his coverage ability and ability to play at multiple spots on the defense. It is almost a sure thing that he will hear his name called on day one of the draft in April.
Last year, the Minnesota Gophers sent Tyler Johnson to the draft. He fell due to some character concerns and some issues with his pre-draft process. This year, Rashod Bateman is up for grabs from Minnesota and has been in the first-round conversation throughout the whole pre-draft process. He can play on the perimeter and in the slot and can play in a variety of different roles for whichever team decides to select him.
A year after the Indianapolis Colts selected Michael Pittman in the draft, the USC Trojans have another top receiver eligible for the draft. This year, it is Amon-Ra St. Brown. He is a true slot receiver and already has a sibling in the league, Equanimeous St. Brown, who is playing for the Green Bay Packers. The two are similar in some ways, but Amon-Ra is the better player.
Zach Wilson is this year’s, Joe Burrow. Originally thought of as a late-round prospect, Wilson has transformed into one of the most sought after quarterbacks in the 2021 class. Now, he has early first-round buzz with his dynamic rushing ability and over-the-top throws. Once selected, Wilson will line up as that team’s starter for years to come.
To most NFL fans, they only see the players on Sundays. Little do they know how important the people behind the scenes are. Most of the blame falls upon the head coach when the team doesn’t do well, leading to their departure, most of the time from the general manager. Sometimes, when things need a full rebuild, both the general manager and head coach get fired. That is the case of a few teams already this season.
