The Miami Heat have drafted very well over the past few seasons, and Kentucky basketball has a lot to do with it. In 2017, the Heat selected Kentucky center Bam Adebayo with the 14th overall pick. Two years later, the Heat selected guard Tyler Herro with the No. 13 overall pick last summer. Both players have been huge for the Heat’s success this season.
Last summer, Bam Adebayo predicted his stats for the 2019-20 season. The Miami Heat center had predicted he’ll average 16 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. So far, his prediction has been right. At the COVID-19 break, Adebayo is currently averaging 16.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.
Jimmy Butler wore number 33 in college, number 21 with the Chicago Bulls, and number 23 with both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers. He’s currently wearing number 22 in his first season with the Miami Heat.
The Chicago Bulls are reportedly interested in Goran Dragic and Derrick Jones Jr, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Both players are expected to be unrestricted free agents in free agency, whenever that starts. The Bulls are also interested in Miami Heat vice president of basketball operations Adam Simon.
It’s almost been a month since the NBA season was canceled. There’s still uncertainty on when or if the NBA season will resume. There’s been talk about resuming the season in the summer and possibly playing into September. However, no one knows what will happen. Everyone is still trying to adjust to the new normal.
Former Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale continues to speak highly of the Heat’s culture. Fizdale appeared on the Golic and Wingo show on ESPN Radio earlier this week and one of the topics discussed was the Brooklyn Nets firing of Kenny Atkinson. Brooklyn players reportedly being unhappy with Atkinson played a huge role in the coach’s departure.
Almost eight years ago, the Miami Heat trailed the Boston Celtics 3-2 heading into game six of the 2012 Eastern Conference Finals. There was huge pressure going into game six in Boston. A loss in game six could’ve sent the Heat home and raise questions about the future of the Heat’s superteam.
During last month’s trade deadline, the Miami Heat flipped Justise Winslow, James Johnson, and Dion Waiters for Andre Iguodala, Jae Crowder, and Solomon Hill. They nearly acquired Danilo Gallinari, but the failed extension talks ended the deal.
A three-team trade that included Miami, Minnesota, and Memphis landed Andre Iguodala to the Heat. While Andre Iguodala was the big name in the deal, Jae Crowder has made the most impact with the team so far. Since his Heat debut on February 9th, Crowder has averaged 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds while shooting 39.3 percent from beyond the arc.
When Jimmy Butler made the decision to go to Miami he was criticized. Some wondered why he would leave a potential title contender in Philadelphia for a team that just missed the playoffs the season prior. Was there tension between Butler and his Sixers teammates? Or maybe Butler just wanted to be the guy in Miami.
The Miami Heat ends their two-game road trip with a split. Playing without Jimmy Butler, the Heat ran their offense through Bam Adebayo. After trailing the Washington Wizards by eight in the fourth quarter, the Heat went on a huge 25-3 run to close the game. And with the Oklahoma City Thunder beating the Boston Celtics, Miami now pulls within a game-and-a-half of the third seed.
