AL Power Rankings: Week 3

AL Power Rankings: Week 3

1. Oakland A’s

The A’s were on everyone’s radar this season and they have exceeded expectations to start the season. They are currently running away with the AL West with a record of 16-6. A big part of their success comes from their offense. They are the second-highest scoring team in the Al with 118 runs scored.

2. New York Yankees

While I still think the Yankees are the better team, losing Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and now D.J. LeMahieu to injury hurts them in the power rankings. They have some concerns with their starters not named Gerritt Cole, but this team is still the favorite to win the AL.

3. Tampa Bay Rays

After a slow start, the Rays have really come on as of late. A big part of that is the play of Willy Adames. He has been hitting the ball well, batting .286/.375/.482. Combine that with the depth of this team, and you have a legit contender.

4, Minnesota Twins

The Twins’ offense has not skipped a beat from last year, they are still awesome. I think the pitching has been the biggest factor of their success. A rough stretch drops them down a little bit, but they will still be one of the big dogs in the AL.

5. Cleveland Indians

While the pitching has carried this team to a 13-9 record, the bats are starting to wake up a bit. Franmil Reyes has been scorching hot and is displaying that raw power that was promised when he was brought over last year. If the Indians can get Francisco Lindor and Carlos Santana to hit the ball, they will be a scary team.

6. Houston Astros

The Astors have some serious problems. The first is that Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve, and George Springer are not producing on offense. I wonder why? But they are putting together a nice four-game win streak.

7. Baltimore Orioles

W….WHAT? That’s right, the Orioles are playing like an actual baseball team. While they will most likely fall off at some point due to the lack of talent and playing in a very competitive AL East, it has been a nice surprise to watch Baltimore so far.

8. Chicago White Sox

Everyone’s darling darkhorse pick has had an up-and-down start to this season. They have the perfect recipe for being an outside contender. A really good, young core, mixed with producing veteran players. I still think they are a year away, but do not count this team out yet.

9. Texas Rangers

The Rangers took a big hit very early in the season, likely losing Corey Kluber for the season. While that doesn’t affect their horrible offense, that is a big blow to an average pitching staff.

10. Kansas City Royals

I said at the beginning of the season, the Royals have a very lowkey good offense. With Whit Merrifield, Jorge Soler, and Salvador Perez in that lineup, they have potential to go toe-to-toe with any lineup they face.

11. Detriot Tigers

Another surprise team in the AL sparked by a strong offensive performance. They are coming off a telling sweep by the Cleveland Indians that may show that this team’s hot start may be over.

12. Toronto Blue Jays

Another very young team that just is not ready to compete yet. They are very fun to watch, but they are not scoring enough runs. Eventually, this team will become the best offense in baseball. But for now, they are just trying to figure things out.

13. Los Angeles Angels

I swear, if we waste another prime year of Mike Trout on a terrible team I will scream. They needed to address the pitching staff and instead, they just chose to ignore it. But hey, congrats on getting Anthony Rendon.

14. Seattle Mariners

I honestly don’t think this team will ever be good again. They just can’t do anything right. They always have that one great player that is stuck on a bad team. They have a lot of problems to sort out.

15. Boston Red Sox

Holy moly, how the mighty have fallen. It may be time to clean house and develop their young talent.
