Every emotion imaginable was felt by all Dallas Cowboy (1-1) fans after a stunning win over the Atlanta Falcons (0-2). Anything can happen in the NFL on any given Sunday. This game had “Iron Mike” punching fumbles, abysmal fake punts, failed frantic two-point conversions, and inert onside kicks. This irrelevant Week 2 game will be discussed among fans, players, sportswriters, analysts, and anyone else vaguely interested, for weeks to come.
Mike McCarthy, remains undefeated in AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys unpredictably overcame four fumbles and a first-quarter 20-point deficit. Justifiably, the Falcons were still leading by 15 in the fourth quarter and up by nine points with just over three minutes remaining.
Dak Prescott played with something to prove. Prescott threw 34/47 for 450 yards. He became the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 400 yards and rush for three touchdowns in the single game. When asked about this epic performance, Prescott responded “Those are just statistics. That was a team (effort) all the way around. My stats are just a credit to the whole offense.” It’s safe to state that the Cowboys will secure their franchise quarterback for years or even decades to come. Prescott joins Drew Brees and Derek Carr with the most game-winning drives since 2016 with 15.
Greg Zuerlein kicked a 46-yard field goal as time expired and the Cowboy players erupted with excitement on the sideline. 21,708 fans could be heard outside the $1.2 billion retractable-roof stadium. Prescott also stated, “But to be able to get the win, and in front of those fans that were there, stayed the whole game, they didn’t give up on us. That was a huge difference.” However, the fans did boo the team as Dallas left the field at halftime since they were trailing 29-10.
The Falcons in disbelief, couldn’t avoid an 0-2 start. Lessons can be learned in losses. Julio Jones in his post-game interview said, “We’re still positive, a very positive team. We’re not going to let it define who we are, we’ve just got to keep getting better.” Calvin Ridley ran poetic routes all day long. He led the team with 109 reception yards with two touchdowns.

The Dallas Cowboys just converted an onside kick to comeback and beat the Falcons.
Only 12 out of 114 onside kicks have been converted in the past two seasons (10.5%).

Both teams are still trying to find their true identity. However, they did find out a lot about who they are today. It’s extremely early in the season and too early to decide a team’s fate at this point. The Cowboys defense is not panicking yet, and truth be told, they have the coaches to figure it out as the season continues. The Falcons have dug a hole in their division, but they will look to find their first win against the Chicago Bears next week.
