The New England Patriots announced Saturday they will be holding an impromptu press conference Sunday after practice. With that said, one question has arisen. About what?
According to multiple reports, it may be to announce the retirement of outside linebacker Rob Ninkovich.
The 33-year-old has been absent from the first three days of training camp and 2017-18 would be his 12th season.
This Patriots beefed up their defensive line this past offseason with the additions of Derek Rivers and Kony Ealy, so the loss of Ninkovich would sting a bit more in the locker room than on the field.
The Purdue product, who has been with the Patriots since 2009, is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Ninkovich, who was suspended the first four of 2016-17 for testing positive for a banned substance, had only missed one game prior over his eight-year Patriot career.
The two-time Super Bowl Champion recorded 32 tackles and four sacks last season.
Practice is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m.
