UPDATE: On Friday night, the Dolphins officially acquired Josh Rosen from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for the 48th overall pick (UMass WR Andy Isabella) and a 2020 fifth-round selection.
The Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals are in the final stages of negotiations regarding a potential deal involving sophomore quarterback Josh Rosen, sources tell Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. The return is believed to be Miami’s second-round selection, which would be the 48th overall pick and the 16th pick in tonight’s round two.
Multiple sources say the Dolphins are close to a deal for QB Josh Rosen, and that a deal may actually be tentatively done. Arizona would get pick No. 48 from Miami.

The Cardinals selected Oklahoma quarterback standout Kyler Murray with the top pick in the first round last night, and that only fueled the Josh Rosen trade rumors that have been running rampant in the months leading up to the draft.
On Boston sports radio station WEEI yesterday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said that, in the past month, only the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins had shown interest in Rosen. (Additionally, Arizona approached the Los Angeles Chargers brass about a potential trade but were shot down).

With the Giants selecting Duke quarterback Daniel Jones but the Dolphins passing on a collegiate pass-thrower, Miami seemed like the best fit for Rosen considering the only quarterback on the South Beach squad’s roster with legitimate NFL experience is veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Rosen went 3-10 through 13 starts (plus one additional game) at quarterback in Arizona last season, splitting time primarily with Sam Bradford but also heeding way to Mike Glennon for 21 pass attempts. Rosen himself got the most action for the Cardinals, boasting 217 completions on 393 attempts for 2,278 yards and 11 touchdowns. At the same time, Rosen was picked off 14 times, meaning every time he released the ball for a pass, there was a 3.6 percent chance it would be snagged by the opponents and a 2.8 percent chance the pigskin would wind up in the hands of a Cardinal.
With Arizona likely securing a selection at No. 48, they could potentially move the top pick in the second round. The 33rd overall selection is considered to be very valuable, but with no clear fit on the board for the Cardinals coupled with the prospect that the team is on the verge of sliding into the No. 48 slot, too, a trade of the first pick in the second round seems more than likely.
Miami acquiring Rosen is certainly interesting because it seemed as if Fitzpatrick was the bridge quarterback for the Dolphins before they went all in for Tua Tagovailoa in the 2020 draft. Instead, acquiring Rosen would likely keep the young UCLA product in Miami for several years to come and nearly eliminate all chances of Miami tanking for Tua.
