Team USA Olympic Baseball Dream Team: Outfield

Daniel Corrigan | May 17th, 2020

Welcome back, in my last article, I set the infield for the Team USA dream team. For this article, I will look at, arguably the most talented group for this hypothetical dream team, the outfield.

Make sure to check out my previous installment of this dream team roster here.

Left Field: Cody Bellinger

Bellinger won the NL MVP last season and solidified himself as one of the best players in the game. He led all of baseball in WAR with 9.1 and slashed .406/.629/1.035. Not only was he the MVP, but he also won his first Gold Glove and was a Silver Slugger. Also, As I mentioned in my last article, I am looking for not only the best players but those who have the most personality and are young(ish.) Bellinger fits that mold to a T.

Center Field: Mike Trout

I mean, c’mon, did you expect anyone else here? Trout is the undisputed best player in baseball. He won his third MVP last season, which is not enough for him. He deserves more than three MVPs. Also, I just found out while writing this he has never won a Gold Glove. But without a doubt, Trout is the best player in the game, and he is approaching GOAT status.

Right Field: Christian Yelich

Yelich is my pick here but I almost went with Bryce Harper. Yelich lost out on his second MVP last season because of an injury. However, he was apart of the 2017 WBC USA team that won the Gold Medal. So he gets the nod here.

Bench: Bryce Harper, Mookie Betts

Harper is the main reason this article is a thing, so I cannot leave him off the list. Not to mention, he has the most personality in the game. He has yet to replicate his historic 2015 MVP season but has still been very good since then.

Speaking of historical MVP seasons, Betts’ 2018 season has to be in the conversation. He had a .346 AVG and a slash line of .438/.640/1.078 in that season. His number dipped a little in 2019, but he is still one of the best young players in the game. He was recently traded to the Dodgers as he has one more year of club control. Hopefully, we are able to see Betts in a Dodgers uniform. Something about the term “MookieWood” just feels right.

Make sure you stay tuned for the next, and final installment as I introduce the Dream Team’s pitching staff, including the bullpen.
