Diamondbacks Rally Late, Win 5-3 Over Dodgers

On a night where Mookie Betts lit up the highlight reels on every social media platform, the Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to convert heroics into a win as the Arizona Diamondbacks won 5-3.

In case you missed the incredible throw by Betts in the first inning, here it is.

After dazzling with his defense, Betts continued putting on a show and provided the Dodgers with their first two runs. Betts hit a solo home run down the left field line in the fourth inning and scored Edwin Rios on an infield single in the fifth.

Although he only managed four innings of work, Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin gave Los Angeles four scoreless frames while only allowing one hit.

In the home dugout, Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen tossed six innings and only gave up the two runs manufactured by Mookie Betts. Although Gallen left in position to take the loss, the Arizona bullpen was thankful for the limited use on Friday evening.

A Kole Calhoun double in the sixth brought Arizona within one run of the Dodgers, but with a Corey Seager solo home run in the eight inning, the Dodgers thought they held a comfortable two run lead.

Former Oakland Athletics closer Blake Treinen came in to start the eight inning and allowed two walks which put Christian Walker in the position to drive in three runs with a double to deep right center.

David Peralta added an insurance run of his own for the Diamondbacks and although Mookie Betts did his best in the top of the ninth to continue his heroics, Avery Bradley was able to seal the victory for Arizona.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks will face off again on Saturday. Julio Urias will take the mound against Luke Weaver in a 5:10 p.m. MST start.
