Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons could return if the NBA season resumes.

Simmons has been sidelined with nerve issues in his lower back. At the time the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, Simmons had missed eight games and was receiving daily treatment.

“We’ve took our time, we’ve been methodical and thoughtful about his recovery and rehab, just to make sure, because we weren’t in a rush,” 76ers general manager Elton Brand said on Tuesday. “It’s hard to speculate. He’s been working hard, and I know he’d be close or ready.”

Simmons is allowed to use the 76ers’ practice facility in Camden, N.J., for rehabilitating and he’s already asking about his trainer.

“He’s asking about when his trainer can come in,” Brand said. “I wouldn’t bet against him. He’s going to be ready and ramped up.”

In 54 games this season, Simmons averaged 16.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists. When the season was suspended, the Sixers were 39-26 and in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Having Simmons back would be good for the 76ers. They are better with him as they have a 33-21 record when he plays and are 6-5 when he doesn’t play. Simmons could also help the 76ers make a playoff push if the season resumes.
