The Boston Celtics have cooled down recently after their red hot start to 2019, however they have a handful of young stars that have taken a huge leap this season. Here are the three players who will rock Celtics green on All-Star weekend.
Jayson Tatum
Tatum had a quiet season last year after his phenomenal rookie campaign. Now he is taking on a leadership role for the Celtics in only his third year in the league. Averaging 20.6 points and 7 rebounds a game, and having the ability to knock down clutch shots, Tatum has emerged as an All-Star favorite in the East. If he can prevent falling into slumps like last year, I feel he has a shot at being an All-Star starter this year.
Jaylen Brown
Following the hand injury Gordon Hayward suffered a few months ago, fourth year man Jaylen Brown got a big opportunity to show he is worth the money. He has quietly had a fabulous start to the season putting up 19.3 points per game. He also has career highs in points, rebounds, steals, and field goal percentage. Despite Hayward’s return and the likelihood of Brown losing minutes, he is still in the conversation for an All-Star thanks to his stellar scoring abilities.
Kemba Walker
Walker has seen a dip in minutes played and shooting percentage since joining the Celtics in the summer but he is still the same All-Star we saw dominate last season. Averaging 23.1 points a game and shooting over 40 percent from three point range, he has shown the Celtics that he can be the talented scorer and leader they needed.
There is no reason to suggest that Walker will fail to be an All-Star this season after being voted a starter last season by fans around the league.
The Celtics stars will continue to give opposing teams problems without a doubt. Although being named an All-Star does not nearly matter as much as winning. However, it should give a confidence boost to Tatum and Brown and propel Boston into a good chance at winning the NBA Finals. Maybe not this year but definitely years to come. The NBA’s winningest franchise has some real talent that teams need to watch out for.
