It is a common trend that players take less money at the prospect of winning a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots. Not Amari Cooper.
The surefire Pro Bowl wide receiver told The Athletic in February that he is not interested in being on the same team with six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, only defeating him.
“No. I don’t want to play with Tom Brady. I want to beat Tom Brady,” Cooper said in February to Jon Machota. “I want to play with Dak Prescott. And I believe that we can get the job done.”
When teams play the Patriots, they often take it up a notch as the Patriots are a well-oiled machine that has dominated the NFL for almost 20 years. Not Amari Cooper who just thinks the Super Bowl champions are just a regular team.
“I played the Patriots once before and it felt like a regular game,” Cooper told reporters Thursday. “We lost, but it felt like a regular game. It didn’t feel like a game that we couldn’t have won. So I don’t think there’s any difference.”
The former Oakland Raider went over what type of defense he expects to see from Steve Belichick, Jarod Mayo and company.
“They seem to be like a game-specific type of defensive type of team,” Cooper said. “Based off what we do on offense, they’ll adjust their defense. They’ll probably run a coverage that they haven’t run all season if they think it will be able to stop some the things we do.”
The Patriots and Cowboys face off on Sunday at 4:25 p.m.
