The Oakland Raiders had the 25th best running average per game in 2018. With their top two running backs over the age of 30, the Raiders should look to make a move to bolster their stable of backs.
Marshawn Lynch figured to be the top choice in 2018, but a groin injury put him on injured reserve back in October and the Raiders had to rely on Doug Martin.
Martin ran for 723 yards for an average of 4.2 yards per carry but only had four touchdowns, while Lynch had three before the injury.
The division-winning Kansas City Chiefs had a tremendous offense last season, and in order for the Raiders to compete, they are going to need a rushing game to help Derek Carr.
The answer for Oakland might be in the draft.
Having three first round picks including No. 4 overall, one might speculate the Raiders might look to select a running back in the top five.
The blueprint they would look towards would be the formula the Dallas Cowboys used. They drafted Ezekiel Elliott fourth overall and surrounded him with a solid offensive line en route to producing one of the top rushing attacks in the league.
Although they had a strong rushing attack, the Raiders might also look for a good run blocking offensive lineman.
If the Raiders feel like there is no offensive lineman or running back that will immediately help, then Martin coming back will probably be the answer.
