Report: Patriots Place Stephen Gostkowski on Injured Reserve

If you had any questions swirling about why the Patriots were working out kickers this afternoon, you now have your answer.

According to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe, the New England Patriots are placing kicker Stephen Gostkowski on Injured Reserve.

The long-time Patriots placekicker had his fair share of struggles through four weeks, going just 11-for-15 on PAT attempts, as well as missing a field goal.

The injury to Gostkowski is to his right hip, according to 98.5 the Sports Hub’s Jim Murray –– and injury that will require surgery.

Gostkowski joins Isaiah Wynn, N’Keal Harry, and James Develin on the injured reserve list –– with only two eligible to return this season. Time will tell on who the Patriots will replace their kicker with, but in the meantime, the search begins in Foxboro.

  1. Are you really thinking ? that I am going to buy that story with the hip injury??? He is just in decline NOT injured. It’s mental NOT physical condition he’s being benched for. I played Rugby for 9 years. Kicker position is second easiest after the punter. He’s NOT getting hurt unless he is hits his left foot with his right foot for crying out loud. If he was hurt he wouldn’t have been able to kick field goals period. He’s no longer motivated to kick well. He knew that he had no competition in the NFL.
He’s behind Adam Vinatieri.. He needs to retire or get his head out of the gutter.
