Belichick Talks Explosiveness of Josh Allen, Development of Jarrett Stidham, Sony Michel

The New England Patriots begin a two-game road trip against the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills as of this week are the only team competing with the Patriots at the top of the AFC East with the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins at 0-3.

With a good Bills team comes a quarterback that can do it all. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick when asked about Josh Allen, praised the quarterback’s speed and versatility.

“He’s like a running back, he breaks tackles, he’s got good speed, good power and he’s shifty,” Belichick told reporters. “It’s another dimension, a sixth receiver in the passing game if you will, gives another blocker in the running game when they have designed run plays for him.”

Belichick stated that the team needs to be prepared for Josh Allen to do anything and not turn a blind eye to any wrinkles the Bills can throw with him.

“They put a lot of those (unique plays) at critical times, a lot of big plays, touchdowns, red area, third down conversions, things like that,” Belichick said. “They use him in some timely ways and well designed plays that create problems for the defense and he adds that element to their offense and they’ve used it very effectively.”

When asked about the recent signing of Cody Kessler, Belichick deflected.

“Whatever personnel announcements we have will be released through Stacey [James],” Belichick said.

Belichick was also asked about his trust in Jarrett Stidham to run the offense if Tom Brady were ever to go down.

“Jarrett’s been with us all the way through, practiced everyday.” Belichick said. “He’s gotten intermittently a lot of reps on offense depending on the situation from week to week, preseason, regular season. He’s coming along well.”

Running back Sony Michel’s performance has been under par this season and Belichick did acknowledge it.

“He’s had opportunities and he’s done pretty well with those and there’s been times where he hasn’t been able to get started,” Belichick said on Michel. “That’s always a problem with running game, if you can’t get them through the line of scrimmage then it’s hard to gain.”

The head coach also admitted that there are things the Georgia alum needs to work on as well as the offensive line.

“There are things he can do better and there are certain other things as well, we can block better,” Belichick said. “[We can also] coach better and improve every part of our offense not just the running game but play actions, passing game, and everything else.”

The undefeated Patriots take on the undefeated Bills on Sunday at 1 p.m.
