The Boston Bruins Iron-Man as of the last season was David Krejci. The 33-year-old center has certainly become a very reliable option for the Bruins on the second line. Even with his injuries and setbacks from years before, Krejci finally seems fully healthy and enjoying hockey again.
Last season, Krejci skated in 81 games in the regular season and then another 24 games in the playoffs. The only game he has missed was because of the healthy scratch situation at the end of the regular season for the Bruins. In the regular campaign, Krejci scored 73 points. In the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Czech forward helped the B’s with four goals and 16 points overall.
Those were not bad numbers. His chemistry with Jake DeBrusk has vastly improved as well. However, his salary-cap hit of $7.25 million per year is still the Bruins most expensive contract on their current roster. With the salary cap problems involving Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo, and their restricted free agents status, there have been some rumblings about the possibility of David Krejci being traded.
Per the NBC Sports Boston, a few teams have asked the Boston Bruins about the availability of David Krejci. The trade interest is nothing new or shocking. Krejci has two years left on his contract, he is very experienced, but not that old. Besides, he just had 89 points in 105 games over the past campaign. That’s pretty solid for a second-line center.
Seeing the deals for players, for example as Kevin Hayes, getting signed for more than $7 million doesn’t make Krejci “overpaid” anymore. For many suitors, he would definitely help their issues.
Would the Bruins consider trading him? Here is what Cam Neely, the Bruins President, had to say in an interview with the NBC Sports Boston.
“I thought David had a fantastic year. He had a really strong year. I think we’ve got some center-men in our pipeline. But to step up to be a No. 2 in the National Hockey League, they are not quite there yet. And David is filling that role quite nicely for us,” stated Neely on behalf of the Bruins.
Despite the trade interest in David Krejci, the Boston Bruins are pretty firm in their position. Even though trading Krejci would make some sense, as of now, it would deliver more damage than profit for Boston. The Bruins know the future of their veteran leader. There is no way David Krejci doesn’t start the 2019-20 NHL season in the Bruins uniform.
