The San Francisco Giants have called up their top pitching prospect Shaun Anderson. Anderson will make his debut on Wednesday for the Giants against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Anderson was a 2016 third-round pick by the Boston Red Sox. The Giants acquired Anderson in 2017 trade with the Sox for Eduardo Nunez. In Triple-A this season Anderson has mediocre 4.11 ERA in seven starts. He has 37 strikeouts and only 11 walks in 37 innings. He also has only given up three home runs so far this season. It is worth noting that Anderson plays in a hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
The 6-foot-4 225-pound starting pitcher is viewed as a potential mid-rotation starter who could help stabilize a pitching staff. The Giants are in the middle of trying to rebuild their roster, so some of their top prospects are getting called up to the big leagues now.
Anderson spent most of the spring training in the big leagues and impressed the Giants with his mix of four pitches. His fastball touches the mid-90s consistently, along with throwing some solid breaking pitches.
It will be interesting to see how Anderson does on Wednesday. Hopefully, he can pitch well and be a breath of fresh air for struggling Giants team, who’s pitching staff is struggling.
