Kansas City Radio Station Adds More Fuel to AFC Battle

Time and again players are criticized when they give opposing teams “bulletin board material.” More often than not, it’s the media that’s at the forefront of the criticism. Rightfully so, by the way.

Whether it’s Ryan Garko in the 2007 ALCS against the Boston Red Sox or the New England Patriots getting their hands on the Pittsburgh Steeler’s Super Bowl itinerary, careless comments and actions cannot happen prior to a major matchup or during a big series.

Surprisingly, the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t done anything to rev up the Patriots. In fact, the Chiefs are approaching it as if they’re the underdogs.

Tom Brady is quick to say no one should need additional ammunition this time of year, yet he’s the same one to bring up the media bashing his team.

Which brings things to 610Sports, a Kansas City sports radio station. Now, Boston is the mecca of sports radio, as much as New York City’s been massaged over the past few years with the retirement and unretirement of Mike Francesa. But no matter which station they listen to, fans know Boston radio hosts are much more likely to bash the local teams than prop them up.

Apparently, things don’t work like that at 610Sports. Morning show host Bob Fescoe (“Fescoe in the Morning”) is already offering a prize pack to listeners that includes a one-night stay at a hotel prior to the “Super Bowl rally” and the opportunity to watch the victory parade from a rooftop deck “when the Chiefs win the Super Bowl”.

It’s one thing when a team pre-plans a parade route heading into the Super Bowl. It may seem arrogant, but there are logistics that come with an entire city essentially shutting down while the masses flood the streets. But this is a whole new level of stupid. Kansas City is in its first AFC title game since they lost to the Buffalo Bills in 1994. Imagine that, losing to the Bills in the postseason?

Now, in fairness, maybe 610Sports isn’t used to any attention. Or maybe Fescoe is like Chris Farley in Tommy Boy. (1:15-1:58 in the clip below.)

Either way, the hosts at the station better check themselves next time they’re quick to criticize any player who steps out of line.
