On Jan. 11th, Don Sweeney announced that the Bruins had acquired forward and Boston native Paul Carey from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for defenseman Cody Goloubef.

Most people didn’t pay much mind to the trade considering Carey only skated 5 games with the Senators, but he definitely managed to make a statement last night in his first game with the Bruins last night.

Carey had an assist as well as the game-winning goal in the Providence Bruins 4-3 win on Saturday night over the Springfield Thunderbirds. Carey netted the epic game-winner with 1:01 left in regulation, securing the win for his new team.

Over his six-year NHL career with the Ottawa Senators, New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, and Colorado Avalanche, Carey has scored eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 97 appearances. At the AHL level with Belleville, Hershey, Providence, and Lake Erie, the 30-year-old forward has scored 84 goals and 125 assists for 209 points in 316 games.

Carey also played at Boston College from 2008-2012, winning the NCAA Championship with the Eagles in 2010 and 2012.
