Gates’ Top NFL Team From Week 3 (2025)

Gates’ Top NFL Team From Week 3 (2025) - Lions RB David Montgomery Jahmyr Gibbs

Week 3 of the NFL season has flown by, much like the changing of the seasons. As we delve deeper into the season, we should begin to distinguish between the contenders and the pretenders.

One clear contender is our Team of the Week for Week 3: the Detroit Lions.

The Lions have consistently demonstrated that they are a serious playoff-caliber team year after year.

Sonic and Knuckles

Sonic and Knuckles, the dynamic duo, are back with the Lions for another season, now facing a formidable Baltimore Ravens defense. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have proven to be one of the best running back duos in the league. In this game alone, they combined for a total of 218 yards and four touchdowns, with each player contributing two scores. Montgomery had 151 rushing yards while Gibbs had 67 rushing yards. In the receiving game, Gibbs contributed five catches for 32 yards.

ARSB is Still Good

Detroit star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown continues to demonstrate that he is an exceptional wide receiver. Even during a game that wasn’t particularly impressive for receiving statistics, he managed to catch seven passes for 77 yards. He scored one touchdown, leading the team in both catches and receiving yards.

The Lions’ Defense is Thriving

The Lions’ defense, which has faced challenges in the past, dominated this game by consistently pressuring Lamar Jackson and limiting Derrick Henry to just 12 carries for 50 yards and one touchdown. Linebackers Jack Campbell, Trevor Nowaske, and Derrick Barnes, along with defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, were able to sack Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson multiple times, keeping him under constant pressure. Additionally, cornerback D.J. Reed made a crucial impact with a forced fumble during the game.

NFC North Standings

Typically, in Week 3, fans don’t pay much attention to the NFL divisional standings. However, the Lions are currently in a three-way tie for first place with the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings. As long as they can keep up with these two teams, they should be successful when playoff time arrives.

Week 3 was chaotic, with traditionally weaker teams having outstanding performances, plus several blocked field goals — some even returned for a scoop-and-score. It is nice to see some relative normalcy in the NFL, with the Detroit Lions still being dominant because of their outstanding tag-team running game and their phenomenal defensive unit.
