The preparation for the 2025 NFL Draft officially begins now. We take a look at new Texas A&M EDGE Nic Scourton, who brings power, explosion, and athleticism to the trenches.
Scourton was a four-star recruit by ESPN and 247 Sports coming out of high school. He eventually committed to Purdue over schools like SMU, Memphis, Tulane, and others. Following the 2023 season, he transferred to Texas A&M, pursuing a title and top draft selection within his position.
During his two-year career, Scourton has amassed 72 tackles (48 solo), 12 sacks, three pass deflections, and two forced fumbles, showcasing his consistency and development. In 2023, he racked up 50 tackles (33 solo), 10 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble while earning Second-Team All-Big Ten before heading to the SEC.

Nic Scourton’s Strengths
Powerful upper and lower body with muscular and imposing length and the mass to rush inside or outside. Very good athletic ability due to contact balance, acceleration, foot speed, foot quickness, upfield burst, lateral agility, and change of direction. Good explosion off the line of scrimmage with the ability to pursue backside versus the run with a very good sideline-to-sideline motor. Repertoire of pass rush moves: Spin – Speed to Power & Bull to win 1v1 vs Vertical, 45 and Jump pass sets. Good use of hands to extend and lift the offensive lineman, allowing him to read and shed the block, making a play in the backfield or line of scrimmage. Violent hands, good hand placement, timing, and bend around the edge to ward off blockers effectively versus the run and pass.
Nic Scourton’s Weaknesses
Adequate pad level, likely as a result of playing in a two-point stance and lacking experience in the three-point or four-point stances. There is an over-reliance on spin moves during pass rushes and, occasionally, a deficiency in hand strength when attempting to defeat anchor blocks. Lacks a variety of counter moves.
Summary
With his transfer to Texas A&M, discussions suggest Scourton may transition his stance with his hand in the ground more frequently (three-point or four-point stance) than he did at Purdue.
