The 2022 NFL preseason is rapidly approaching, with team practices growing more intense by the day. Coming off an offseason for the ages that changed not only the complexion of individual teams but both the AFC and NFC as a whole. Many things will look quite different from a season ago. It’s the perfect time for the fourth annual edition of Three Burning Questions. As in years past, this 32-part series will look at the three most pressing questions facing each of the 32 teams. Here are the Three Burning Questions for the New York Jets.

How will Zach Wilson Look in Year 2?
The rookie signal-caller showed glimpses in his debut season. His stats and the team’s wins total weren’t lights out by any means. Wilson took his lumps. But in doing, so he gave Jets fans hope for the future, starting with this upcoming season. The receiving corp is filled with guys he built chemistry with last season, including Corey Davis and Elijah Moore. He does have a pair of shiny new tight ends, former Cincinnati Bengals C.J. Uzomah and former Minnesota Vikings Tyler Conklin. Their abilities to catch and block will benefit Wilson tremendously.
Will the Revamped Secondary Succeed?
The team signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead and Seattle Seahawks cornerback D.J. Reed in free agency. The duo joins Lamarcus Joyner, who signed with the Jets last offseason but went on injured reserve in September and missed the rest of the year. The fourth and final piece the Jets added to their new-look secondary was the No. 4 overall pick, Ahmad Gardner out of Cincinnati. A defense that was dead last overall in 2021 was left with little choice but to overhaul the secondary. Their thinking was to throw together enough playmakers, in hopes to slow down their opponent’s passing attacks. For a defensive-minded head coach in Robert Saleh, who is heading into his second season, he needs the defense to keep his team in games.
Can They Contend in the Division?
Gang Green should look like a leaps and bounds better team. It’s unlikely they’ll compete for one of the top two spots in the AFC East. The team as a whole is young, so any improvement from last season’s 4-13 record would be a welcomed sight. This team could finish the season 8-9 or 9-8. But barring anything drastic happening to one of the other three teams in their division, who at least on paper are all superior teams to the Jets. This team is in all reality one more offseason away from really vying for a top spot in this division.
