The SEC champ has quite the accolades which date back to his high school career. Beck took a leading role in his junior season at Hazel Green and guided the Trojans toward their first state championship. Additionally, Hazel Green is responsible for just four players ever getting drafted with Beck as the fifth. As a Volunteer, the right-handed hitter was selected for the 2020 Round Rock Classic All-American Team to the addition of the 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team.

Strengths

The stats provided above only justify Beck’s potential as a first rounder. A high average hitter which is a direct result of his raw power and ability to spray the ball throughout the field. Cranking 15 dingers in 2021 and 16 in 2022, his 6-foot-3 frame is an apparent inference to his ability to drive the ball. While he may lack the stability of bat-to-ball upside, Beck is most definitely a long-ball threat.

In regard to his fielding capabilities, the youngster proves to be a proficient fielder, whether it’s his exceptional defensive instincts or his hose in the outfield. Spending the bulk of his collegiate career in right field, it seems that Beck has found his permanent position. In addition, his size may be deceiving as Beck is considered quick for his size, which he implements in the field and around the bases.

Weaknesses

While the 21-year-old possesses the raw power which not many prospects have, his discipline at the plate is a major flaw in his game. Beck did make a vast improvement in his ability to draw walks, yet he whiffed 61 times in 2022. In several instances, his patience wears down in high-pressure counts, which only results in an aggressive hack.

Pro Comparison: Hunter Renfroe

Many have made the comparison between the two studs. Renfroe, a veteran outfielder who is modeled off his natural power, is fairly similar to Beck. Both of them struggle to govern their discipline at the plate yet fare no issue in the field. Not to mention, Renfroe has an exceptional arm in the outfield which Beck already possesses.

Draft Projection: Round 1, Pick 23, Toronto Blue Jays

In an outfield that is comprised of three veteran gloves, the Blue Jays should consider investing in an outfield prospect. Thankfully, Beck isn’t expected to be selected until the later stages of the first round. While this year’s draft consists of endless talent, Jordan Beck should be a top priority for Ross Atkins and his faculty.
